5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent tool for a touchy topic
I've used this book teaching 10 classes in Multicultural Education for California State University at Hayward. It covers some "hot spots" like gender, special education, race, and social class. I've never had a student who expressed dislike for the book. It provokes dissent, emotions, and great discussions but maintains a well researched and professional...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good book
Good book discussing some basic issues facing teachers in multicultural settings (or any setting for that matter).

If you are already familiar with the topics covered then it'll be a refresher. If you are oblivious to some of these ideas then this will be a good book for you.

This was a required book in my course but I bought the 5th edition as...

I would recommend it to any professor of multicultural education and I eagerly await the 4th edition, coming this July!

This was a required book in my course but I bought the 5th edition as it is nearly identical, they added and removed a nonessential, testing insert for the 6th edition. I saved a lot of money by going with the previous edition which is important for many students.

5.0 out of 5 stars MUST HAVE, July 13, 2010

I'm getting a Masters in Education and read this book for my multiculture ed class. It is incredible. Good sources and very through. It will make you critic and re-evalute your prejudices. I think it is a must have for educators to read. As a teacher one must constantly be reading new books/articles on their content and their learners. I think this book is more geared towards secondary education, than elementry. It is easy to read and very insightful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Reviewing Banks & Banks Mutlicultural 2007 Textbook, June 26, 2007
I was very impress with the material covered in this book. The authors did a thorough job from the historical perspectives of mutlicultural in this country. From the historical to current events that affect multiculture and especially multicultural education. I like the way the incorporated GT students as well as Special Ed students in this book. For these students are also found in the minority cultures and as they pointed out the are so overly represented in the Special Ed programs and not as much in the GT programs. As educators we have more work to do to make sure all students receive an equitable and quality education.

This book and the ordering process met the need I had for my online course work. Ordering through Amazon.com is fast, simple, and straight forward. The book provides an adequate review of multicultural educaitonal practices but misses the point in a few areas. I recommend you read it for yourself and compare it to other resources to find out how.

5.0 out of 5 stars Book, November 25, 2011

Book arrived when promised. Cost was fair. Just wish the class would have used it more, but that has nothing to do with Amazon. The book was in excellent condition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Equivalent to 7th edition, except for the price., July 16, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Multicultural Education: Issues and Perspectives 5th Edition Update (Paperback)
This 5th edition book costs 1 cent, compared with $72.50 for the 7th edition. However, this book is exactly like the 7th edition with one major exception: The seventh edition removes some of the chapters in the 5th edition.

Very interesting and informative...Has several categories of multiculturalism included such as gender bias, sexual orientation, ethnic and racial backgrounds, age discrimination...

Also includes ideas for instruction that are realistic and easy to put into practice
