Amazingly Mahalanobis is Missing from this Book,
By
This review is from: Multidimensional Systems Theory and Applications (Paperback)
I was all intent on purchasing this book on multidimensional systems until I glanced through the chapter-by-chapter titles. The surprize to me was that the book appears to be missing any detail on the latest (and in my opinion - best) multi-dimensional approach in practice today: the Mahalanobis Taguchi Approach (also called MTS). Perhaps this is because the author is unfamiliar with the latest 'doings' in Japan, the United States, Denmark and elsewhere.
MTS is a broadly-applicable pattern-recognition approach used in marketing and in many other fields - in fact, wherever pattern recognition is the goal. I myself have used it to improve corporate Loyalty Programs (see my reviews on the books on MTS or Mahalanobis Taguchi). This second edition is therefore incomplete in that it does not include the leading-edge practice. The real 'beauty' of MTS is that it does not suffer from the inadequacies of nine or so other multi-dimensional approaches (as pointed out so well in one of the MTS books I reviewed for Amazon). I will continue to explore books on multi-dimensional systems, hoping that their authors are up to date on MTS and even on its latest developments (including hundreds of world-wide case studies - some of which have been published). I do recommend this book, however, for someone who simply wants to review some not-so-obsolete techniques and approaches. It appears to be well written and by a respectable author. However, my leading-edge consulting practice demands using the best and leading-edge approaches for my corporate customers. James Kowalick |
