Book Description

0750671254 978-0750671255 February 3, 2000 1
Multifunction devices combine the essentials of a fax machine, printer, scanner, and copier into one peripheral for small and home offices. As the market for this equipment grows, the need for skilled repair and maintenance increases. Unfortunately the service documentation supplied by the manufacturers is completely inadequate making the repair jobs even harder and more expensive. Marvin Hobbs teaches you how multifunction peripherals work in theory and in practice with lots of hands-on examples and important troubleshooting and repair tips you don't want to miss.

This book fills a gap in the literature, and will be a welcome addition to the library of any technician or do-it-yourselfer.

Written by a knowledgeable practitioner with inside industry information
Fully covers the troubleshooting and repair of multifunction peripherals
A must-have instructional and reference title for anyone who works with computer peripherals!

Editorial Reviews

Review

This resource explains how multifunction peripherals work in theory and in practice, with lots of hands-on examples and important troubleshooting and repair tips.
-Poptronics

Hobbs's guide includes very clear technical illustrations, an abbreviation guide, a glossary of terms, troubleshooting flow charts, and operational theory. While general guides cover many multifunction device maintenance and repair issues, this book provides valuable information on the special failures that come with complicated modern multifunction devices. - Library Journal 2004

1.0 out of 5 stars Too old to be of much use., May 5, 2009

This review is from: Multifunction Peripherals for PCs: Technology, Troubleshooting and Repair (Paperback)
Although the quality of the book itself was like new (kudos to the seller), the book is severely outdated and of practically no use except for repairing specific brands of multifunction machines, 15 years old or older. I wanted to find out how to repair my 2002 HP multifunction, but this book could'nt begin to assist me there. The book was only a dollar and that is more than it was worth. I guess we certainly do live in an age of disposable electronics. I theorize that in the future, advances in technology will produce interchangeable generic hardware modules that are extremely versatile and cheap to manufacture. Holographic chips instead of circuit boards, re-routable fiberoptic circuits instead of electricity and wires. One basic building material that can be configured in infinite ways. I'm waiting for these technology advances and standards so that all of our lives may be improved but alas, there is just to much money to be made by corporations from following the generational upgrade release model. That sucks.
