4.0 out of 5 stars Review on Hofstetter's Multimedia Literacy book
This book is clearly written and provides concrete examples. I have used both this edition and earlier editions when teaching a Multimedia Evaluation and Development class. While the students initially complain about the expense, a large number come back and tell me it was worth it. The students can use the book to learn material outside of class, that way in class we...

1.0 out of 5 stars This book is a real letdown
While promising an all encompassing voyage into the world of multi-media, this book is little more than an expensive advertisement. The author spends little time actually presenting an educational lesson and more time touting the virtues of the various software and hardware he obviously got for free to use with the book. While promising an all encompassing voyage into the world of multi-media, this book is little more than an expensive advertisement. The author spends little time actually presenting an educational lesson and more time touting the virtues of the various software and hardware he obviously got for free to use with the book. In addition, the CD which comes with the book is virtually useless. Half of the demonstrations and exercises you are supposed to be able to use on the disk will not run because not enough code was included to make it function properly. It's a major rip-off that you have to spend almost 100 bucks for this sorry excuse for a textbook.

This book is clearly written and provides concrete examples. I have used both this edition and earlier editions when teaching a Multimedia Evaluation and Development class. While the students initially complain about the expense, a large number come back and tell me it was worth it. The students can use the book to learn material outside of class, that way in class we can have discussions and hands-on activities. If I were recommending a book for someone to use to teach themselves about multimedia, it would be this one.
