Book Description

December 1994
Offering an alternative approach to multiparadigm programming concepts, this work presents the four major language paradigms - imperative, object-oriented, functional and logical - through a new, common language called Leda. It: introduces the important emerging topic of multiparadigm programming - a concept that could be characterized as "the best of" programming languages; provides a coherent basis for comparing multiple paradigms in a common framework through a single language; and gives both a technical overview and summaries on important topics in programming-language development.

Editorial Reviews

From the Back Cover

Multiparadigm programming reaches a new frontier in computer science and is going to be the next big revolution in programming languages. Budd's text is at the cutting edge of this research. This book uses one language (Leda) to explore four different paradigms of programming: imperative, object-oriented, functional and logic-oriented paradigms. Currently, programming language courses need to focus on several different languages to show how various aspects of each paradigm work. With the use of Leda, a language Budd designed, students see how the unique features of each programming paradigm can be learned through one multiparadigm tool. This enables students to concentrate on the concepts of each paradigm and not worry about the semantic details of several languages.

This review is from: Multiparadigm Programming in Leda (Hardcover)
This book on Multiparadigm programming programming was the first of its kind that was ever written. I had the previlage of taking a Special Topics Course in this subject under Dr. Budd himself and the book served as an excellent source of course material and knowledge. Multiparadigm programming is something of the future and this book gives you an indepth understanding of the subject. Short and easy to read yet comprehensive chapters was another thing I found attractive about the book. Also makes good reading for anyone interested in knowing more about the subject.
