Scientists, engineers, and others can use the system to explore the behavior of physical device structures on a computer before going to the workshop or laboratory to build a real one. The models he describes are within the context of the laws of the physical world, and explored in light of First Principle Analysis techniques. Among his topics are materials properties, zero-dimensional electrical circuit interface modeling, two-dimensional axi-symmetrical modeling, two-dimensional complex mixed-mode modeling, and perfectly matched layer models.

This book was only a print of model tutorial of Comsol, the contribution is resuming at note foot that don't explain and details the concepts.
The book doesn't give hints of modeling and mesh performance. The title leaves customers to believe that you will have a detailed guide of how built great models and the main problems solutions.
I am really disappointed with this book and I don't recommend this book if you have a median knowledge of Comsol. Its better buy a book of theory about the physics behind the Comsol.

This text is about creating models using COMSOL Multiphysics v4. This text is much more concise and does a better job of connecting the Physics with the software. Each chapter also deals with error codes - a very useful feature. It does not delve deeply in the realm of Mathematical Modelling. To gain greater depth in the mathematical rigour associated with Mathematical Modelling see "Mathematical Modelling" by Meerschaert "Modeling and Simulation of Systems Using MATLAB and Simulink" or "A First Course in Mathematical Modeling".

At the end of this text you will be able to use COMSOL v4 effectively. The specific details of the item to be modelled will have to be found in the research journals, however, for whatever you are researching as only very fundamental/ conventional items are modelled. Integration with Matlab is not discussed, but you should not need it unless you have to use Matlab functions with your model.

Even though it is portrayed as an intro book, this book has examples/tutorials that are not your typical Intro to FEA exercises.
I was looking for a book that would start me on simple solid mechanics, followed by heat transfer, until getting to the more complicated 3D FEA including bioheat and electricity; however this book jumps right into those more complicated subjects.
As you know in order to use FEA correctly you need to know the theory of what you're going to analyse first; therefore I would not consider it a "First Principles Approach"

Excellent tutorial on the basic aspects of COMSOL. This will get your feet wet. COMSOL is a rabbit hole if you dont have advanced training, so I advise you to also do a Google search on tutorials put out for University students.
