I loved Double Dash because my kids and I could play together and unlock cars and tracks. Then the Wii Kart came around and we could only unlock stuff in single player mode, so we played it a total of one time and never again. Will this have the ability to unlock everything in multiplayer or is it the same single player only for the unlocks?

Too early to tell. We don't know a whole lot about this game yet. You might just have to wait until the game comes out and answer that question yourself. Sorry I don't have a definite answer!

in Double Dash, by finishing the entire grand prix, you could unlock more vehicles and characters, Special Cup, and two battle arenas. in Wii, when you do unlock more characters and tracks, you're able to pick them in the game's multiplayer. if you start a new file and pick multiplayer, you're only able to pick the first 12 characters, 8 Wii tracks, and 8 retro tracks

If your kids are incapable of unlocking stuff on their own in single player, a good father would play it himself in single player mode when they aren't around, and then let them enjoy multiplayer mode on the same license file.

Lol. They are teenagers now. We play games to bond and have fun together. The point is to unlock stuff in multiplayer mode rather than single. Double Dash allowed this and it was great.

Well, it's great that you play with them. But unlocking stuff in multiplayer mode is kinda like cheating. It taints your single player record. If I am playing multiplayer, I don't want the others players achievements mixed into mine. Because of this, they keep the multiplayer system separate from the license system. Double Dash didn't have driver's licenses. Everyone shared a user profile. So you needed separate memory cards if you wanted to keep separate records. Like if I ever get anyone to play multiplayer Mario U with me, I will do it on a copy of my save file. Slot A is my main save file. Slot C is for backups. Slot B is for multiplayer and/or for cheating. Because while cheating on a hacked console can be very fun, I still want an untainted record of my real achievements.

Me and my wife play through Double Dash every year, because we like to play through the game and beat it together. With the Mario Kart Wii game the ability to play through the game in multiplayer and unlock the extras was missing. As a result we played the game one time, and after figuring out that this mode was missing, we immediatley returned the game. I know a number of other couples and people with kids, who feel the same exact way. This mode is the only reason I play Mario Kart and if it is not included I will not be playing this game either. There are so few games that we enjoy playing as a family, I hope that this mode is included very much. Most people I know have zero interest in playing Mario Kart single player.

There is hope that you will be able to play GP (Grand Prix) mode with 2 players. I saw a video on IGN with 2 people playing and the words 'last race' flashed on the screen briefly before the stoplight countdown. I enjoyed the 2-P GP mode of Mario Kart 64, and have been waiting for its return.
