Informational, but more than that - empowering.,

This should be required reading for all people with MS. It shows you things that have been proven to help, that let you start to take back some control over your disease. Some of the information is a bit "heady". The scientific data is sometimes hard to read. But the best part about a book is that you can read it as many times as you need to make sense. She explains these scientific tidbits very well. Excellent reading.

Judy Graham's book literally changed my life and how I "manage" my MS. She gives specific suggestions and a whole menu of choices of ways to control your condition. As I read it, I kept thinking, "I can actually do this..." And I have and it works for me.

I have had MS for eight years. I found this book extremely informative. The author discusses information that I have not found anywhere else. Her approach to disease management through vitamin and mineral suppliments as well as the importance of identifying food allergies has given me renewed hope. I highly recommend this book!

Because Doctors Won't or Can't Tell You Everything,

This review is from: Multiple Sclerosis: A Self-Help Guide to Its Management (Paperback)
This highly readable, well-organized book covers the essential alternative approaches for those dealing with relapsing-remitting MS. It focuses on the best accepted research studies and wellness management (as opposed to symptom management). For example, there is a lot on diet, with great explanations of why it works, but nothing on bee venom therapy (which only temporarily can address symptoms). It's so well written, you can get the essence of the whole thing in a less than an hour, and then drill into the parts as appropriate.

This book offers a comprehensive, holisitic explanation of what is happening to us as we develop the symptons of this disease. It gave me a lot of hope and five years after reading it I have had no additional problems. Anyone with MS is not doing themselves justice if they do not read this book!!

This book was my life line when I was first diagnosed with MS. I read it from cover to cover so many times that it practically dropped to bits and whenever I hear of another newly diagnosed MS sufferer I loan it out. It gave me hope when I had none.

Old Information,

This book was written before the new drugs for MS. The info in it is dated with some advice that could be harmful if using one of the new drugs such as rebif, avonex, etc. You do not want to rev up your immune system. It is already working overtime destroying your myelin. Try one of the newer books like MS - The First Year by Margaret Blackstone. Also, Teri Garrs book and Fall Down Laughing are good.

Managing your own disease process is not a substitute for your doctor's care or advice, but it can help both you and him to improve the quality of that life. Medications can only go so far, and the rest is up to you. Know your own body, your symptoms, and what you can do about them. Knowledge is power.

My mother extended her life with this book,

My mother was diagnosed with stage 2, almost stage 3 MS in 1992. Back then, the only medical treatment was to give steroid shots when an MS attack occurred. She was told she would be in a wheelchair within 1-2 years. I researched alternative treatments, and came across an older version of this book. I gave it to my mom, and she followed the supplement treatment. For the first couple of weeks, her body was purging nasty stuff, and she had horrible headaches, which the author of the book said would happen. After that, her body calmed down, and amazingly, she got better. A lot better. Her MS reversed back to stage 1, and she had very few symptoms of MS, and they only manifested when she was severely stressed. What my mother didn't tell me at the time, was that when she was diagnosed with MS, she was also diagnosed with terminal cancer. She was given 6 months to live. She did not undergo any cancer treatment at all, and hid the cancer diagnosis from me. What's amazing is that after adopting the MS treatment in this book, she actually lived for over 2 1/2 years more. Our family doctor told me after she died, that in his opinion, the only thing that enabled her to live so long with that cancer diagnosis, on top of the MS diagnosis, was the supplement treatment in this book. It was clear to him, because she refused any other treatments, so the only thing that could have extended her life was this treatment. I recommend this book to anyone with MS, and in fact, have seen others adopt the treatment and reverse the disease, much to the amazement of their doctors.
