I guess a good way to make money is to write a book telling people how to make money.
This book is very well laid out, informative and practical.

This book is really the first step in a series up "up-sells" that Allen and his organization will attempt. There is some good stuff but you won't find enough of it in the book to actually accomplish anything. That's on purpose. They want you to feel compelled to purchase some more material...and on and on it goes until you're a few THOUSAND dollars into the "system." Even then it's small small percentage who find any kind of success.

I listened to the cd version of this book out on Nightingale Conant and I couldn't wait to post here.

Robert Allen tries very hard to project the kind of emotional excitement that a Tony Robbins does and falls weirdly, woefully short. Two quotes from the book standout: He describes ideas coming from California as a "Stench" that crosses the country (helloooo all my California listeners!) and he LAMENTS that an employee of his sexually harrassed another employee and he missed out on the "fun" (exact quote) while getting sued. Sexual harrassment is "fun" to Robert Allen? I listened to that three times because it made no sense, but it's his words, not mine.

Let's hammer out some financial details. Allen spends way too much time talking about compound interest. We all learned about that in Junior High "Consumer Math." He uses examples of 20% gains year-by-year over a period of 40 years to prove his point. It is irresponsible for anyone to suggest to a reader that you can get consistant 20% gains over the long haul (anyone have single digit stock market gains after 9/11/2001?) - therefore all of Allen's compound interest examples are fantasies. All he had to do was live with acceptable 10-15% interest gains for 40 years and I wouldn't have complained. Allen then backtracks on a chapter on "Tax Lien Certificates" and says people could be pleased with 14% gains. What happened to 20% gains? Allen also backtracks claiming that to get 20% growth one needs to invest in real estate properties as well as the stock market. Individual Real Estate properties do NOT provide compound interest- it's a great investment and can provide 20% gains annually, but it's not an example of compound interest it's an example of the rising value/cost of an item.

I am generally not a Robert Allen fan, but I did read this book because I was intrigued by the title. The book is *generally* pretty good, but it oversimplifies the "streams of income" as he calls them. His first 3-4 streams are about investing in stocks, options, etc. It is not that this is not great investments, but it is also really hard to be good at it. I have an MBA with degrees in finance and economics and have been investing for 10 years, but even I wouldn't try some of his suggestions about options investing simply because I don't think I have enough knowledge or experience to do it well. I understood everything he was presenting and I *might* be able to do it, but I am presenting my review to someone who may not have a background in investing and economics in which case you might be in over your head by following the advice for a couple of his investing income streams. It takes a lot of research and experience to pick good stocks and even more experience and knowledge to pick options, which is why Wall Street money managers make so much in management fees.

His other income streams are about investing in real estate, which is also good material, but definately harder then he makes it out to be. To his credit he does state that only 1 out of every 100 prospects will be willing to do business the way he is suggesting. Therefore my point is that I wouldn't call this income stream "part-time" or easy. It would take a lot of marketing work and aggressive searching to continually and consistently produce 100 prospects so you can get one deal out of it. Investing in real estate is a great income stream, but most seasoned investors including myself will tell you it is pretty hard, does require some of your own money (at least a little) and is NOT part-time work.

Robert G. Allen is a notorious and relentless internet spammer. If you should happen to somehow end up on one of his email lists like I did, he will send you several junk emails a day. Unsubscribing doesn't work, and trying to block the sender's domain is useless because the emails are sent from a different domain every time. The funny part is that the emails aren't even coded properly. They always show up as just a bunch of html code. Would you really take internet money-making advice from a guy who can't even code html properly? Anyway, his spamming practices are completely illegal and it's only a matter of time before the law catches up with him. But that shouldn't come as any surprise considering that mister Allen has been in trouble with the law before. He's had several run-ins with the IRS, lawsuits against him, and a chapter 7 bankruptcy. I would also stay away from his Nothing Down real estate methods. Many of those practices are illegal, and the president of the Nothing Down club in Atlanta wound up in federal prison because of it. For more info on Allen, visit johntreed dottcomm, click on Real Estate Investing, then click Real Estate Guru Ratings. Bottom line, don't trust this guy and don't buy his books. And if you're reading this Mr. Allen, take me off your @%#&*$ mailing list!!!
