Book Description

June 19, 1996
This text proposes that success in any industry today depends on having the ingenuity to "reinvent" yourself continually to accommodate the ever-changing marketplace, the versatility to do many things well, and the expectation that you will have a series of careers (on average, seven) in your lifetime. Citing his own experiences, and those of other successful multipreneurs, the author explains how to develop multiple sources of income and pursue multiple careers - simultaneously or in succession - and offers advice on identifying key markets, handling career risk, and managing your own benefits.

Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

Gorman presents a detailed explanation of how to manage your career in a way that will work for you in the 1990s--in a world with dramatic structural change in most corporations, a new social contract between employer and employee, and different skills and attitudes required for most jobs. Multipreneuring is a label for success in modern business today, which requires individuals to be able to organize resources, manage their careers, and assume sensible risks in the same way that a business enterprise is run. With the goal of helping the readers develop a portable, self-contained professional identity, the author offers them guidelines to gain insight into who they are professionally and, with that insight, to learn how to become multipreneurs. Criteria for a multipreneur include independence from a single employer, ability to learn and apply many skills, flexibility and adaptability, and being proactive in terms of starting a project and seeing it through. This thought-provoking book cautions readers that in the new environment of the 1990s and beyond, most of them will be required to function as multipreneurs for the rest of their working lives. Mary Whaley

4.0 out of 5 stars This is the future of how to earn a living without a 9-5 job, July 26, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Multipreneuring (Paperback)
Being a "multipreneur" (now I know what it is I've been doing the past few years) I read the book from cover to cover. For people who are already "multipreneuring", it confirms many things you should be doing to run your business. The only negative that I found was that it would have been nice if it was more specific about "how to do it" and give samples (eg. sales letters). Also, a big dilemma I'm toying with, as I'm sure many multipreneurs are as well, is how do you get away from having to register multiple business names, multiple phone lines, web pages, business cards etc. to promote and run each "multipreneurial idea" that you may have. Obviously, it could become very expensive!
In summary, anyone that has lost their job or has many different business ideas that they want to try out, then "Multipreneuring" is a must read to get them started and to let them know that there is a name for it!

Multipreneuring is a great career and business strategy. What one needs to do is to identify his/her strengths or special skills. Use these strengths or skills to develop multiple businesses and derive multiple incomes.

Read this book together with Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hills as well as The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People by Steven Covey. You are on your way to Business and Career Success.
