Editorial Reviews

Review

"An elementary discussion presenting a theoretical foundation by emphasizing general principles, accessible to electrical engineers and others with some prior exposure to linear algebra, multi-dimensional signal processing, and filter banks. Covers both basic and multi-dimensional multirate processing, filter banks, lattice structures, and wavelet signal processing. Includes problems for each chapter."

From the Back Cover

One of the most interesting features of wavelet analysis is the computational aspects of the subject. In particular, computation of the discrete wavelet transform is intimately related to filter bank algorithms in subband coding. The subject of multirate wavelet and signal processing is based on filter banks. Multirate techniques are becoming an indispensable tool for solving electrical engineering problems, and the author of this book is an expert in this field.

This is an elementary and self-contained book, written for the general audience of electrical engineers. Applied mathematicians and other engineering professionals will also benefit from learning the powerful tools of multirate for solving various problems in systems design and analysis, data analysis and compression, object identification and classification, etc.

This review is from: Multirate and Wavelet Signal Processing, Volume 8 (Wavelet Analysis and Its Applications) (Hardcover)
Multirate and wavelet signal processing is an open field for research in major sientific graduate schools. This book is a great reference for those who are in this field and those who would is interested in. Although the reading of this book requires rigid mathematical background, but it really rewards if you would like to explore more about the beauty, elegance of wavelet theory. And it is quite pratical, too. People have found numerous applications for it, in everyday modern life, image processing, high speed modem have benefited from wavelet a lot. So fasten your seat belt, and enjoy the ride.
