5.0 out of 5 stars Not your bog-standard blues, July 22, 2008

This review is from: To Mum, From Aynsley And The Boys / Remains To Be Heard (Audio CD)
First released back in 1969, 'To Mum From Aynsley and The Boys' is a wonderful album. At the time it garnered some so-so reviews but I think that's because most people didn't have the ears for what they were hearing. This is a moody and intense album, full of tunes that are some distance away from the standard British blues that was in favour at the time. It still carries its menace and brooding intent beautifully and is a worthy addition to any music lover's collection. The accompanying album in this 'two-fer' release, 'Remains To Be Heard', is less adventurous and not as accomplished as the magnificent 'To Mum...' which is the bee's knees!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great British Blues Band, January 6, 2009

The Aynsley Dunbar Retaliation was a great British Blues band that never had the success it was due. This set is comprised of their last two albums(they released four albums during their existence). The first, "To Mum from Aynsley and the Boys" is excellent with great vocals from Victor Brox and great guitar from John Morshead. Aynsley, of course, is one of the great drummers, then and now. The second album, "Remains, etc." is something of a throwaway album, although it is redeemed by some thoroughly smoking cuts at the beginning of the album. If you want to go back to the hazy blue days of 1969,get this CD. Enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars It was a shame that this group had so little success, July 9, 2010

Aynsley Dunbar was a great drummer and the guitar of Jon Morshead was likewise great. The decisions and timing were very poor for this group to have but fleeting success. Still this CD is a great look at British blues. Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Blues Rock n' Roll by Aynsley Dunbar, August 10, 2007

This CD is great. Aynsley Dunbar is one of the greatest drummers of our time and this was his first effort to do his own thing. The AD Retaliation band was huge and had/has a world wide fan base. Aynsley was eventually recruited out of this band by Frank Zappa to become one of the Mothers and complete another successful chapter in his career.
