5.0 out of 5 stars Enter A Realm Of Magic, October 21, 2001
By
This review is from: The Mummers' Dance (Audio CD)
I now own both The Mask and Mirror and The Book Of Secrets, but I purchased this single awhile back and regret waiting so long to purchase the full length albums which are equally amazing. This has got to be the ultimate starters kit. I mean, almost everything that Loreena McKennitt puts out is extradinary but these are her two most famous most renoun songs ever. It includes the radio friendly and longer album version of The Murmurs Dance while also including my favorite song by her, The Mystic's Dream. So if you're considering buying something by Loreena McKennitt for the first time ever than I suggest starting out with this teaser of a sampler and I guarantee that you'll be begging for more...

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome music!, February 20, 2002
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Mummers' Dance (Audio CD)
Many people have heard the radio version of "Mummer's Dance". It is the song that really made Loreena McKenit famous. What people do not realize is that she put out some outstanding pieces before her radio debut. One of them is on this little single. The whole CD is excellent if you like the "Mummer's Dance", and both the radio version and the album version are on it. For three and a half dollars, you really can't go wrong.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable, February 10, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: The Mummers' Dance (Audio CD)
This song is one of the greatest I have ever heard. It literally gives me chills every time I hear it. "The Mummer's Dance" is akin to a fairy tale that takes the listener to a past with no cars, television, internet, telephones, or cd's. The blurred image on the album cover says it all: this album is like a spotting scope to Celtic society and village life, when things were still mystical and magic and religion predominated the lives of curious people. This song WILL TAKE YOU AWAY, guaranteed.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT!, December 11, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: The Mummers' Dance (Audio CD)
I first heard this song (Remix Version) on the Ever After (movie) Trailer. I decided to get Book of Secrets instead of the Single, and am glad I did, but I found myself yearning for the Remixed version. I decided to get this CD even though I already had two of the three songs. I'm glad I did. The Remix is /much/ better than the album version. It has a better beat, and is much more interesting, with a variety of sounds happening out of no where. I'm a little dissapointed that the third song on the CD would be Mystic's Dream from M&M, because I don't like the song very much. Bonny Swans would have been a better choice. Still, it's worth it!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Mystic's Dream, January 21, 2004
This review is from: The Mummers' Dance (Audio CD)
I bought this single years ago and only listened to the first two tracks. I started to listen to "The Mystic's Dream" numerous times, but found the chanting boring.

Well, one day while I was cleaning, I decided to put the CD in, and listened to tracks 1 and 2,and when track 3 came on, I didn't stop it as I was in the middle of dusting. After about three minutes, Loreena started singing, and I was blown away!

I learned my lesson: always listen to all the songs on a CD. You never know when an obscure one may jump out and be your favorite!

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, absolutely beautiful, January 27, 2001
This review is from: The Mummers' Dance (Audio CD)
This CD is great, absolutely wonderful. I first heard the song The Mummer's Dance on the radio a few months ago, and I completly fell in love with it. This CD has two versions of the song, the reguler version and an expanded version. Also on the CD is the song, The Mystic's Dream, which I had not heard previously but I like almost as much as The Mummer's Dance. I intend to get the full length CD as soon as possible, and I'm sure it will be as good as this. I would recommend this CD to anyone who likes Celtic music or New Age, since this is a beautiful combination of both.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ever seen Jade?, December 1, 2000
This review is from: The Mummers' Dance (Audio CD)
If you have ever seen the movie, then you have already heard The Mystic's Dream. It is the only song that they play during the movie, and again (in it's entirety) at the end credits. It fits the movie very well, and will also fit in your cd collection very well. I actually got this cd just for that song anyway. The Mummer's Dance is a great song, but The Mystic's Dream is by far a superior song. This song has many uses. You can get a massage to it, you can meditate to it, you can sleep to it, and you can also make love to it. It is so sensual and erotic. The hypnotic music and her outstanding vocal just put all of your nerves at full attention. You cannot help swaying your head of even your whole body to this song. It is just that good. I was a big McKennitt fan for a while, and then I kind of lost interest, but when I saw Jade (1996) on some movie channel and heard that song, those old feelings just came rushing back. Just go get this cd and see if I am wrong.

4.0 out of 5 stars An Interesting Remix, January 16, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Mummers' Dance (Audio CD)
This is a very nice single, and I was impressed with the song. Alas, after I heard the re-mix, I went back to listen to the original version on "Book of Secrets" and it is so much better. I'd recommend buying "Book of Secrets" rather than this. It has more songs, and the best version of "Mummers Dance"... not that any Loreena McKennitt could be bad.

5.0 out of 5 stars GET THE GERMAN VERSION OF THIS CD..., August 27, 2003

it also contains a stunning live version of MARAKESH NIGHT MARKET-plus it comes in a normal, single CD case, not those [silly] Snapper cases that Warner USA use.

It is also a shame and an insult that her music is catagorized under "New Age"
