Book Description

7 and upSam: Dog Detective
Talk about the winter blahs. Sam: Dog Detective can't find a mystery anywhere. The sheepdog sleuth doesn't know how she's going to make it through another snowy season. But things begin to heat up when her friends, Jennie and Beth, visit a museum. There they see the mummy of a pharaoh who is said to walk the earth searching for his beloved missing dog. Now Sam -- who always feels she deserves the royal treatment -- has the mummy hot on her trail. Will she be able to elude this creepy corpse as he stalks Woodford looking for his shaggy white dog?

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 3-5-Fans of Mary Blount Christian's "Sebastian" series (Macmillan) or John Erickson's "Hank the Cowdog" books (Viking) will readily accept that Sam, a sheepdog, can communicate telepathically with 10-year-old Jenny. The seventh book in this slight and light series finds the pup bored with winter's confinement. After hearing about an Egyptian exhibit at the local museum and learning that the mummy is supposedly walking the earth looking for his white dog, Sam is sure that she is that dog. She and her human pals, Jennie and Beth, then concoct a plan to trap the mummy while eluding its curse. Readers will find a bit of slapstick humor in Sam's food preferences, which are quirky and definitely not canine. The writing is simple and the mystery is safe-not too scary, and very accessible for reluctant readers.
