'THE MUMMY'.... IS GREAT,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Mummy (CD-ROM)
This game is straight from the movie. It has fairly good graphics, but the people are 'boxy'. It is an all out 'shoot em up' game, but as with the movie nothing bleeds. It has terrifying visual and sound effects and is most enjoyable. You get the greatest feeling of satasfaction with the completion of each level. It is an exellent challenge, but not too difficult to handle. It's a good game for you if you are looking for an action packed, something-around-every-corner type of game. It needs no brain power, you just have to figure out how many shots or slashes everything requires so as not to use up all your ammo (it becomes very valuable so as i prefer swords). It starts out slowly with scenes from the movie and slowly builds up to more difficult adversaries. It provides a challenge with 6 types of mummies (not including the mummy himself, you don't get to fight him until the end), tomb robbers, anubis, beni, anck-su-namun (pronounced anac-sue-namoon), and finally imhotep. With three types of guns (dual pistols, a shotgun and a lewis gun a.k.a an old fashioned machine gun), a torch, a machete, dynamite, amulets (throw them and they blow up), the golden sword, and if all else fails, your fists, you are well equipped for just about anything. Overall I would say this is an enjoyable game.

Amazing!,
A Kid's Review
This review is from: The Mummy (CD-ROM)
When I considered buying this game I wasn't sure whether or not to buy it because I thought the graphics might be bad and it would be cheap, as in I hit the guys a million times, then they hit me once and I die, or it would be really easy. I was wrong. Oh so very wrong. The graphics are great, you hit a guy like a maximum of like 5 times before they die, and it's very hard. You must get 6-8 star keys to go on to the next level. To get a star key you need to do a special thing, whether it's kill a swarm of mummies coming after you on all sides (That's why it's good to get caught in a corner, because they can only come at you from one side), finish a surfing section, or find some trap doors. There are tons of different mummies. Some have shields, some have bows and arrows, and some just attack with their fists. You also must face ex-friend Bennie, Imhotep, and Anck-su-namun. There are also Anubis warriors, and Tomb Robbers. The guns are very good, too. You start off with revolvers, a torch (I call it a candlestick because it is so bad),your fists, and once you collect four treasures you get a magic amulit, that explodes when it hits the ground. You get the Machete (Sword) once you finish the first level, you get the dynamite on the second level (they're pickups), and you get the shotgun once you finish the forth level. I haven't gotten the Lewis Gun yet. I prefer the machete until you get to the swordsman mummy, then I use the revolvers because by then I have a lot of ammunition. I think it's the best game on the market today, definitely the best shoot-em-up game. A must buy for all action gamers.

ROCKIN'!,

This is one of the best games I've ever played, probably one of the best games on the market. The graphics are pretty good, but the people do look kind of funny. The sound effects are great. You get so caught up in playing this game that you actually feel like you really are Rick O'Connell and this really is life-or-death. You get all these great weapons to use. I prefer playing with a friend (one person does the walking, the other the shooting) so you don't have to think as much. It takes pretty good coordination to mow down mummies and get out of their way at the same time. But this game is really fun. I recommend this to everyone who's "just looking for a good time".

The Mummy is a straightforward reenactment of a two-fisted adventure, straight from the movie starring Brendan Frasier -- at least the fighting parts. It could be argued that the game is mostly a DOOM remake with skins that happen to be Egyptian in appearance. Since the movie focused mainly on Rick O'Connell blasting away at things with lots of guns, though, the game lends itself well to the first-person shooter genre.
In terms of graphics, Rick O'Connell's face is mapped onto the figure, although he's a bit blocky, and he sports incredibly muscle-bound proportions that aren't evident in the movie. When he lights or douses a torch, the lightning in each area adjusts appropriately. The camera floats just over and above Rick's shoulder and has a built in "quick swivel" that moves so he's always facing away from any wall or object he's against. This nice feature allows him to look down at a pit when his back is against the wall, without requiring you to have to continually adjust the perspective. Unfortunately, the game isn't always a first-person blaster in that it uses other elements, too, such as a game-within-a-game motif that includes a surfing exercise requiring the hero to jump or duck obstacles while riding a log down an underground river. Unlike other parts of the game where Rick can take cumulative damage before dying, one misstep on the log causes instantaneous death, depositing Rick back at the beginning of the level in third-person perspective before he reaches the surfing portion again. There are other problems as well. For a bizarre reason known only to the designers, the space bar is both the means of attacking with a weapon (be it Rick's trademark dual pistols, a torch, an "amulet grenade" or so forth) and the method used as he interacts with his environment. This leads to the character blasting away, perhaps with the same frustration the player feels at times, when attempting to push a button to open a door. There are also traps that cause instant death, an element that is never fun. An inordinate number of doors slows the pace down as the hero must usually search for switches to open them, often having to kill monsters to get there, and all too often, the monster doesn't show up until Rick reaches the door. Combined with the other problems, the game's excitement level is diminished considerably by these elements. But, at the same time, the shoot-em-up scenes in the game are lots of fun. Watching the mummies twitch and writhe as they get hit from Rick's two pistols accurately captures the feel of the pulp era but, once the game deviates from that basic formula, it quickly loses momentum.

A mummy experience,

I loved the movie and becuase of that I enjoyed the game. There are lot's of movie clips and and the music is all heard in the film. All around the levels and music create a spooky experience that is fun and exciting. The camera movements are somewhat jerky and can cause parts of the game to be rather difficult. The game is catagorized as action and it fits it's description with lots of enemies to take care of. If you liked the film and enjoy action games, this game is for you!

Not worth [the money]Robotic gameplay and a confusing perspective make this game difficult to adjust to from standard FSP play. Almost mouse interface at all.

Ok, I agree - the graphics aren't great and the music plays the same thing over and over. It doesn't follow the movie (it is loosely based upon it)and there are places that you just get "stuck" in and have to restart. But my kids (and I) have had so much fun playing this game. I originally got it for my 10 year old but it creeped her out with the mummies popping out all over the place. Now everyone likes to take turns playing it. We've had a LOT of different video games come and go in our home but this one seems to still be a favorite to this day.

Believe me there are NO games that are enjoyable to both myself and my wife. EXCEPT The MUMMY. We have finally completed all levels after countless hours of mutual fun. Does anyone Know if the new "The Mummy" by ebgames, coming out in April 2004 is a follow on or a completely different outfit.\?

The game is good for the action,

My brother received this game for Christmas when he was in 9th grade and I was in 4th grade. My brother played it untill he got up to the third level CAVERNS OF THE NILE then he stopped playing for a while. Then I started playing the game. I enjoyed it basically because it was an action game and that's what I was interested in. The controls were very easy to get used to mostly just going forward, backward and the key that you use to fire your gun or slash your sword. First, the weapons you start out with are a torch and two pistols but gradually you go on and collect a machete, a shotgun, a golden sword etc. The enemys you battle include guys with hats, mummys, enemys with swords and shields and more. The only reason I gave it 3 stars was because the graphics were not good and there was not much else in the game besides killing people and going through levels. However, there were some bonus parts where if you collected enough treasures you could do special things such as having unlimited amunition, being invincable and theres a bonus level which is the CAIRO LEVEL. If you're into the game just for the action I would recommend it to you otherwise you might want to check it out.
