They stay together, you can turn them very easy with the use of one stroller.
Overall, I'm completely satisified with this product and would highly recommend it to someone who doesn't want to invest a lot of money in a double stroller.
Yes, it makes the stroller wide but I only use it at the lake paths in our town or at Disney World.
