I was one of those Moms that probably read all of the sippy straw cup reviews on every cup offered. Not to mention we tried at least 6 different brands of straw cups. And while we thought each time we'd found, "the one", there was always an eventual flaw. Parents...this is THE ONE. Look no further. I assure you that if you close this correctly (listen for the "click"), this cup will NOT leak. This was professionally tested by an active 2-year-old boy. ;) We also tested to see if it was difficult to get water out through the straw (as this often frustrates kids with cups that claim not to leak), but the water flow was just right. My son has turned these upside down and shaken them, chucked them half way across the room, etc. - no water leaking out. Have I made myself clear? Haha. We bought 6 of these and threw all our other cups away. One note: we use these only for water. For milk we use the Take n' Toss cups. This is because I feel that with any of the straw cups with gaskets, and parts, you never get all the milk residue out. Ick. The Take n' Toss cups are best for milk because you know they're cleaned out. But we only let our son use those supervised because he can easily tip them upside down and get milk running out the straw, etc. Hope that helps out!

I purchased these cups to help my 9 month old begin her transition from bottles. She was able to use them immediately. I love that they are easy for her to hold, the lid clicks when it locks into place, the parts are easy to clean and intuitive to put back together. I have another sippy cup and the first few times I took it apart to clean it, I almost had a panic attack trying to figure out how all the pieces work together. I didn't have that issue with this one. Further this sippy cup is spill-proof and the straw is long so there isn't a need for a ton of tilting to get the last of the liquid.

Two things that bother me: 1) you have to take the time to ensure the lid goes on straight and not at an angle, otherwise the "no spill" thing goes out the window and 2) if you put cold milk inside and screw the lid closed as the milk heats up to room temperature it rises through the straw due to the change in pressure (the way a volcano works) and can create a small mess. I usually open the lid to release the pressure or wrap a napkin and saran wrap around the tip of the straw if it will be packed in bag.

Other than those minor inconveniences I really like this sippy and my daughter does too.

Our young'un could not get the hang of regular sippy cups (the kind with the no-leak valves). We just kept buying different brands and offering them to him as if that would make a difference. My wife and I tried sucking on them to make sure nothing was stuck or that they weren't too hard to suck on, but that wasn't the problem: they were pretty easy to get liquid out of if you have a moderate ability to suck. But, for some reason, our son couldn't get the liquid out. We realize that part of the issue may be that our little one isn't adept at tilting while sipping, and maybe that's what you have to do with a regular sippy cup (but don't quote me on that).

In any case, while exchanging dad war stories at work one day (his involved something cool; mine involved sippy cup woes), a coworker nonchalantly said "you need a straw sippy," as if it was the most obvious thing. When I got home, I read that straw sippies often work better for the young'uns because the straw resembles a nipple. Well, wouldn't you know, when we ordered these straw sippies, our son chewed on the straw instead of sucking on it. This persisted for a couple of days until it finally just clicked. He now sips his young'un beverages all by himself! It's a miracle (for us, at least). What I've now learned is that it's maybe not an actual miracle but the fact that these straw sippies have a different mechanism to prevent spills--a lock mechanism instead of a no-leak valve. For us, that has made all the difference. Also, with the straw sippy, he doesn't have to tilt the cup; he can hold it below him just like you would with any straw-containing beverage and the liquid comes out fine.

My son is the type of kid who will only drink out of straws. He never liked to tip the other sippy cups. Imagine how excited I was when I found these. Now, imagine how scared I was when, as he was drinking from one, he starts coughing like he's choking. Then he spits something out. A piece of plastic. To be precise, it's the tip of the straw. I had had this experience with another Munchkin sippy, of a different type, that was supposedly chew resistant. I figured it was a fluke, but lodged a complaint with Munchkin so they would be aware of safety issues of their products. They ignored it completely. And then it happens again....and once again they ignore me completely. Please, for the safety of your children, do not buy or use this product.

I absolutely loved the first Munchkin straw style cup that I purchased for my son. I decided to purchase a few more so that I was not having to wash them as often. The new set looked the same except they had the improved leak lock lids. The first time my son drank from these cups, they leaked all over his lap. I figured that it must have been that I did not get it tightened all of the way. The next time we used them was at a friend's wedding. The cup was filled with water, tightened as directed, and placed into the diaper bag. After the ceremony as I was reaching into the bag to get the cup, I was surprised to find that the entire bottom of my bag was soaked and the cup was almost completely empty. I HIGHLY DO NOT recommend these cups!

Follow up: after contacting the Munchkin company, they are working with me to replace my leaky cups. Thank you Munchkin for standing behind your products.
