By now, Munchkin has become something of an icon in the non-electronic gaming world. The game play is relatively straightforward: (1) collect cards that give you points, (2) flip over cards that depict monsters, (3) compare your points to the "level" of the monster, (4) defeat the monster or attempt to escape (depending on the results of your points comparison).

Each card contains its own set of rules that affect game play, so each card contains (often substantial) text.

The game is fairly flexible in terms of the number of players it can accommodate, but somewhere between 3-5 is probably best. If you stick to those numbers, a game will usually take around 30-45 minutes.

This set CANNOT be played as a standalone game but is rather a (Lovecraft themed) expansion to the original Munchkin Cthulhu core set (although it is also compatible with any of the many Munchkin sets and expansions).

Overall, the play is very fun, portable, fast-paced, and often amusing.

This expansion adds a number of amusing cards to incorporate additional variations and twists on the game, including the addition of a new type of over-sized card that serves as a specialized "dungeon" for engaging in combat. These over-sized cards are a welcome addition, although their impact on game play isn't especially substantial.

Note that this particular expansion set, like its core game counterpart, is Lovecraft themed -- in other words, if the player doesn't enjoy (or won't understand) Cthulhu or Great Old One jokes, you are better off getting a different set of Munchkin cards (Star Munchkin for sci-fi fans, Conan Munchkin for fantasy fans, etc).

So if you are a Munchkin lover, you well love this expansion. New card type. Dungeon card, in the 4th Cthulhu expansion deck, there is a new card type, the dungeon cord, being around 4 1/2in tall and 3 1/8in wide.
While a dungeon card is in play, it affects ALL the players unless the Portal that sent you there (see below for Portals) says otherwise.
Some dungeons will let you gain levels for entering, leaving, or doing certain things. These level increases cannot give you the winning level unless (of cores) the card says you can.
Yes, you can be in more than one Dungeon at the same time.

Setting Up the Dungeons
The Dungeon cads are separated in there own deck. Start the game with one Dungeon card face-up.
This is the Dungeon that you are currently in. To choose the starting Dungeon you can either:
(1) Pick one at random (top card)
(2) Let the player who one the last game pick, or the loser of the last game
(3) Just agree on one you all like.
However you decide the first Dungeon card, you most shuffle the rest, and place face-down ready for the moment the munchkins stumble through a Portal...

Portal Cards
Portals are Doors...vary special Doors. All the Door cards in this deck are Portals.
When you draw a portal face up, you must immediately follow its instructions. you may enter a new Dungeon, with or without leaving the old one. you can (as I have said above) be in more than one Dungeon at the same time. After you have followed the Portal's instructions, draw another face-up Door.
When you draw a Portal card face DOWN, you have a choice:
(1) Turn it face up immediately and follow the instructions, draw another face-DOWN Door
(2) Put it in your hand.

This was definitely worth the $10. You only get 16 door cards and 20 dungeon cards but it is much more than "a few extra cards." You get a new environment that changes everyone's play; one card lets everyone take a treasure before their turn starts. Not all caverns are good, though; one says you have to lose an item you're carrying or a level before your turn starts. I have several Munchkin sets and I definitely recommend this product.

This expansion is great and provides some excellent dungeon/portal cards that can be utilized either exclusively with Munchkin Cthulhu or paired with Fantasy Munchkin (once you remove class specific cards that refer to "Cultists"). The art on the cards is exceptionally well done and contain hilarious references to the HP Lovecraft universe. Can't wait to get a party together and start playing!!!

I was a little disappointed with the first dungeon expansion (Munchkin 6) and was a little afraid with this one as well, it didn't seem the dungeon aspect blended as well did steeds and hirelings (in Munchkin 4&5) however, SJG's second attempt with Dungeons was a success. These cards are funny, annoying (in a good way), and look great. HP Lovecraft and Munchkin fans will love this expansion.

This is a small thing of cards (20 dungeons and 16 portals) but has excellent playing value. The only thing is that the portals are a bit excessive for those with a small deck (they mention this in the rules) so you might want to only use 8 (there are only 8 unique portals, each 2x). I imagined it would be more but I'm not dissatisfied, more would've been too many anyway!

Must have for the original Cthulhu and great add-on! Steve Jackson always produces some of the best tongue and cheek cards. The add-on really changes and makes the game that much better! The additon of the Dungeon creates a whole new dynamic to game!
