While this DVD teaches the four coins of quarter, dime, nickel and penny as well as the one dollar bill, it does so without a lot of fancy animation. If your child is expecting a cartoon-style learning DVD, they will be disappointed. This DVD has two children who interact mainly with Wendy, an adult teacher, receiving instruction. That being said, it is definitely effective. Your child will learn the four coins and the dollar bill, how many coins in each denomination it takes to make one dollar, and how to count how much money they have "in their piggy bank" by making what Wendy calls a money worm. (Putting coins in order to count.) They will also learn the dollar and cent sign. Very little instruction is given to understanding a more complex amount such as $3.62 or higher amounts like $50.00. No five, ten or twenty dollar bill is shown or even alluded to. My son started watching this when he was two and a half years old. At nearly three, he knows the names of all the coins and what they are worth. He can identify the dollar and cent sign and if asked, can correctly say an amount such as $2.00 or .23 cents. (He knows his numbers up to 100, though) I would not say he understands these amounts are what he would need to buy an item, nor would he be able to count out the correct amount from a pile of coins and dollar bills to make that purchase. I suppose in time that "light bulb" will come on for him. Overall, this is a DVD I would recommend to a friend of a child who can sit through an informal classroom-style learning format. Through repetition, I think all children will learn the concept of basic money.

My four year old daughter LOVES the whole series of MUNCHKIN MATH! As does my babysitter's two older girls (6 & 9) when they come over. Recently I've added a Munchkin Math DVD to birthday gifts, every mom has commented how much their child loves this series as well! This company has put a lot of thought into making the language of Math very FUN! Can't wait for more DVD's from this company!

We just got this DVD a few weeks ago....and it is definitely a house favorite! My children (3, 5, and 8) all enjoy it! The songs are cute and catchy- I am impressed. I bought the Telling Time one forst, but went back and bought all of the others in the series. This series really does engage my children- all of them! I would recommend this group purchase instead.Munchkin Math - BOX SET - ALL 3 DVDs

I bought every DVD this series has, and I will buy any more they make. My two year old knows his coins and the values, even though I purchased them for my 4 year old. Highly recommended!

Does not keep child's interest for more than 10 minutes - sort of slow moving for children under 3 or 4

Great for learning coin values, not so great for teaching how to count money,
This review is from: Munchkin Math: Counting Money (DVD)
This DVD did teach my 3-year-old all the coin values which was great. However, in order to actually count the money, the child will need to know not-so-basic addition (my child only knows basic addition). For example, the child might need to know 50 + 25 = 75. I can't really say it actually teaches counting money (although it does teach all the steps you need to take before you get there), especially for the younger ages...but I do think it is a worthwhile video.

INCREDIBLE DVD!,

I was amazed how quickly my 3 and 4 year old learned about money. After watching the DVD 2 or 3 times, they know all the coin names nad can tell you how much each are worth. We bring the money worm mat to restaurants as we are waiting for our food to come, I just dump out coins on each of their mats and they sing the cute little money worm song as they place the coins in order and count them.It was a perfect intro to how to count money for my kids! Thank you, Munchkin Math! Kudos to a great series!

My kids love the other two Munchkin Math videos and they definately love this one as well. We tried the Rock N Learn videos and found the Munchkin Math series much more educational - my kids ask for this one all the time!

I was really hoping this would be a good introductory video to learning about money. I think it is way too advanced for younger kids (ie, 6 and younger). I bought it based on the other reviews and the applicable ages 3-9. Since I bought it for younger kids, I am disappointed. It did not hold their attention and parts of the video were way over their heads.
