These straw cups were recommended by my husband's boss after their exhaustive search for the best straw cup. And after ordering them I have to agree that they are the best we have found. My twin girls have been drinking out of sippy cups since they were 6 months old. I wanted to transition them to straws at 12 months. They are sturdy and pretty easy to clean. The valve is in the top part of the straw so you need to squeeze the valve and run water through it upside down to clear it well. The only reason I didn't give these five stars is because I noticed that if you leave them out with some liquid in them (I use them for milk) the liquid creeps up with the pressure that has built and slowly drips out all over the table. But all you need to do is throw them in the sink right away to avoid a mess. I don't recommend them for the carry around the house type cup. I use the Thermos Foogo (filled with water) for that because they are more leak proof and indestructible, but the foogos are sippy cups and for cups with straws I recommend this product.

Below is my original "5 Star" Review which I will leave intact. I initially LOVED this cup, and still love how it works in general. However, over the last month my son (who recently turned 16 months old) has chewed a piece of the straw off completely twice, and put holes in the top of the straw on two other occasions (luckily I was able to snatch the cup away before he totally chewed through the straw). At first, I hoped it was a fluke, and went to buy a replacement top and as far I could tell you can only buy replacement STRAWS, I would have to buy a whole new cup in order to replace that part that my son chewed through, which was upsetting. Now that my son has chewed through 4 tops I can't imagine even replacing it, because I feel it's not worth the risk my precious little one would choke on a plastic piece. So, I am disappointed because I didn't get a lot of safe use out of these cups before the problems began. It was still a great "intro straw cup" for a very short while, but the choking hazard is very scary to me so I am now looking for something with a hard straw that my son can't chew through. Still debating whether to contact the manufacturer and see what they have to say. Again, here is my original review:

I bought a few sippy cups with straws from BRU and ended up hating them -at first they seemed ok, but they were hard to clean and soon broke, my son kept tossing them on the floor and I figured out it was because he could hardly get any liquid to come out of the cup (believe Tommy Tippee was the brand, not sure if I have the spelling right).

My son refuses to take any other sipper, he loves munchkin...have been using it for a year now...

Pros:
1. Cheap, BPA free
2. kids seem to prefer it, soft straw
3. cleaning is easy
4. easy to hold.

Cons:
1. doesn't last very long, straw breaks easily, but considering the low price... it may not be a big issue.
2. the straw does not reach the bottom, my son gets irritated when can see his drink but can't drink it
3. if you take the lid apart from the straw base , it takes a little effort to put it back all together.
4. not the best cup to carry while travelling, it starts to leak.

There is a very similar version of this cup made by Nuby that I thought I was buying (oops on my part, no amazon's or anyone elses). No biggie, I'm flexible. It's not a bad straw cup. My daughter likes it, it's easy to hold and doesn't tend to make too big a mess if dropped (a few drops of whatever but usually not a big puddle like some other cups). One exception to this, if the cup lands just the wrong way it pushes the pliable middle part in and makes a GIANT mess. If you leave it out with something cold in it the pressure will build and cause it to come up out of the straw and that will make a decent mess. Easy solution is cold things (like milk) go right in the fridge when she's done. If you keep it cold it won't pour over. Or just wash/put in sink immediately.

I've tried it myself and it's fairly easy to get liquid out of it until you get to the last ounce or so. Then the straw isn't quite long enough to get the stuff in the bottom which can frustrate your little ones.

I mentioned the Nuby cup because it's cheaper (on amazon at least) and I think it's slightly better. On the munchkin cup there are three little nubs in the outer lid that you need to line up in order to attach in the pliable inner portion of the lid. The three nubs aren't equally spaced. So not only is it a pain to get the pliable inner portion into the outer portion, if you line it up wrong it's a giant pain in the butt to fix. Especially annoying when you've got a toddler who wants her milk or water and is pulling your pants down and screaming as you try to get it right.

All in all, it's a decent cup. I wouldn't return it. My daughter likes it. But if you're just shopping for a good straw cup I recommend you check out the Nuby version that is very similar to this one. All the positives with none of the negatives.
