Great product !!,

After alot of research I bought this sterilizer at Walmart when I was pregnant with my last 2 children (twins). With all the bottles I have gone through in the last 10 months this sterilizer has been wonderful. I wish I had known about it when I had my other 3 children. I wash the bottles, put them in the sterilizer, add 7 oz of water, microwave for 4 minutes, let them sit for 2 minutes and done. SIMPLE and easy. I have sterilized breast pump parts, pacifiers, bottles, and nipples with ease. I would recommend this product for anyone looking for an easy way to sterilize. This is now the gift I give to friends and family that are pregnant.

It Works,

I'm a father of a 4 day old and thought we wouldn't be needing a sterilizer for a while since my wife and I planned on breast feeding exclusively in the beginning. Turns out that our baby had borderline Jaundice and it was recommended that he get plenty of fluids so we started supplementing with formula. I bought this product at target for about the same price as on Amazon. I didn't have the luxury of waiting for delivery.Pros: It works, it's simple (just asdd water and you can use the bottles you are going to sterilize to measure the water), it holds a lot, it is compatible with different brands of bottles (we have doc brown and avent), it can hold other non feeding items that need sterilization, lid clips eliminate accidentaly opening after use lessening chane for steam burns Con: no steam vent to release pressure before opening, no indication that proper temperature/time has elapsed for thorough sterilization Responses to other comments: water comes out everywhere when opening - sure some water comes out some of the time, but if you open it carefully it's a minor to non-issue. Unsure if it's BPA free - of course i wish we knew for sure if it was BPA free, but in the end nothing on this product will go into my baby's mouth so it's a nonissue for us. I'm not chemist, but my understanding is that BPA is a chemical compound that is part of the structure of certain plastics. it's not like BPA can unbind with plastic molecules in this product and magically transfer over and bind with a bottle or nipple. In my opinion, as long as the bottle and nipple is BPA free, we are comfortable. At the end of the day, i'm happy with this product. if i had the luxury to wait for shipping, I would have strongly considered the microwave sterilizer from The First Years as i've had good experiences with that brand and it has a design to address the cons I listed above.

Yes, it's big and the bottles will fit. I use the big Dr Browns bottles and I can get 4 in with all the pieces at once but not STANDING the bottles upright. That's why it gets the 1 star, but water in any plastic container with a lid would sterlize bottles. Its the design that abolutely kills this product. The blue handles that you use to close the lid are so flimsy they come off at times, such as when you're moving the sterilizer from the microwave to the sink. They are NOT reliable, don't hold them sterlizer from there... And the sterlizier itself is shaped so poorly that you really can't grab it from anywhere safely. This is an accident waiting to happen. I am a very cautious person and I caution you, if you do buy this, don't use it with small children around and hold on to the receipt. You're going to need it.

The product does what it should but when you take the lid off water pours out everywhere. I like the way it holds so much but they should have made the base taller and the lid shorter.

I bought this bottle steamer 3 months ago and yesterday as usual after it done I took it out from the microwave as usual using the blue handle on top. But then both of the side handles broke and both of my legs was burn with the hot water from the steamer, worst of all I was holding my 3 months old baby when it happen. If something happen to my baby I will never forgive this company. This is ridiculous incident and it shouldn't happen to any other mothers. Please DON"T BUY THIS PRODUCT!

I use this to sterilize my Tommee Tippee bottles. It fits four bottles and four nipples just fine, and works like a charm. I've used it to sterilize pacifiers and spoons and other baby items in between dishwasher rounds. I also like that you don't use any type of soaps (like a dishwasher)- just the steam of the water. I know there were complaints about the fact that the water spills out when opening the sterilizer, but I'm pretty sure that's expected (like when taking the lid off of a crock pot- condensation is inevitable!). Just open it up over the sink or on a towel. It's worth the price, and not worth spending more on something else.I also really like the free bottle brush that came with this item. Works great for my Tommee Tippee bottles and is one of the best ones I've found (no metal end- all brush bristles.

Great Product (When used properly),

I love this product! Read the instructions before use. The lid locks onto the base with a c-shaped piece that fit around a bar on the base. If you don't hook it correctly, it leaves a gap. The clasps on the sides were not made for carrying. Neither was the handle on top. You also need to wait two minutes after the microwave stops before opening. That allows the sterilization process to finish and prevents water from going everywhere. I hate when people misuse a product because they don't read instructions then give the product a bad review. I recommend this product to everyone. There are pictured instructions for how to put in different types of bottles and pump accessories. Written by Mrs. Samuel

This is a wonderful sterilizer at a good price. Not only is it for Munchkin bottles, but it also works for Avent bottles and accessories as well.

Provides peace of mind for new mom,
This review is from: Munchkin Steam Guard Microwave Sterilizer (Baby Product)
This steam sterilizer works fine and we have experienced no issues with it beyond lime buildup, which was to be expected and came as no surprise. We use it to sterilize bottles, nipples, pacifiers and breast pump equipment. My wife gets great peace of mind from running everything through the sterilizer all the time. While I am not convinced that this is necessary on an everyday basis -- a good solid washing would do fine, in my view, supplemented by a steam treatment every once in a while. While I'm not convinced this product adds a tremendous amount of value compared to conscientious washing, if it contributes to peace in the household, that's a good use of the $15 it cost.

I bought this product to sterilize my bottles and breast pump accessories. I chose this product because it was much more cost effective than some of the branded sterilizers (i.e. Dr Brown's, Avent etc.). The product works realiably and is able to steam all of our bottles/accessories in 4 minutes in the microwave. It fits the 4 oz and 8oz wide Dr. Brown's bottles and the 4 oz. standard Dr. Brown's bottles standing up. The larger standard Dr. Brown bottles do not fit standing up, but I am able to set them sideways and that seems to work. I am also able to fit all of my Medela breast pump accessories (except for the tubing, which I use the Medela steam bags for).Overall, I am pleased with the product and would recommend this if you don't want to spend double the cost for a branded version. As previous posters mention, it does leak a little when you open it. It would also be more convenient to have a steam vent, but as long as you wait a minute or so, this isn't an issue. When the bottles come out, there is quite a bit of condensation that remains even after a couple of hours on the drying rack, but if I need to use them right away, I just dry the bottles out with a paper towel. |
