This is such a soothing sleeping aid for infants. Bought for my granddaughter and it is used each time she's put in the crib. The gentle sound and soft lights are fantastic. no background static as I've heard in other crib sound/light devices which seem for older babies. A definite must for newborns.

I don't use that description loosely here, this crib light has rescued our sleep and sanity a few times a week since we bought it. Each time our daughter (10 months old) wakes up and is put back down by the crib light, we breathe a sigh of relief and say "sooo worth the money!".
It is a simple product, with switches that you can easily find even fumbling in the dark with a baby in your arm. It is safe - it attaches firmly to the side of the crib. The lights are soft and soothing, but just bright enough to see the baby. The sound is just like the sound of mom's heartbeat that you hear in an ultrasound. That sounded gimmicky to us at first, but it really works. The sound stops after about 10 minutes - plenty of time for her to drift back off to sleep. The only con I can think of with this crib light is that, by design, it stays on while in voice activation mode and drains batteries a little. It isn't "idiot proof". You have to remember to turn it off when not being used. We kept forgetting to turn it off and it drained the batteries in about a month. If you remember to turn it off, they will last much longer. Overall, I highly recommend this product for any new parent trying to help their baby sleep through the night.

My son (6 months old) was having some trouble falling asleep at night and would wake up a couple of times during the night and it was sometimes difficult to get him to go back to sleep. I bought the night light out and what a difference! He loves the lights and the womb sounds. He peacefully drifts off to sleep at night and if he wakes up during the night, the night light turns on and lulls him back to sleep. I haven't been this well rested since before he was born! I have seen some reviews that complain that the light isn't very bright and the noises aren't very loud, but I think they're perfect. Any brighter or louder and it would be disruptive instead of soothing. It's a great buy for anyone with a baby!

as first time parents we wanted the perfect nursery set up for our baby and we got caught with the description for this light: "on...the moment it hears your baby cry", "And the lights are just the right brightness for nighttime checking or diaper changing"...boy o boy! nothing could be further from the truth!! before we installed it my husband tried all the different tones of voice to see when it would come on-all to no avail. so we thought "it's baby-voice sensitive"...waste of thought again...we actually let our son cry for about 5 minutes just waiting to see when it would come on...well...we're still waiting!!!
apart from that, the colors of the lights...let's just say "they grasp the concept of 'dim light' a little too well". i tried using it during a diaper change and soon realized i wasn't seeing a ting!! while some of the colors do cast a reasonable light some pretty much go dark... summary: look for another night light; pass on this one! This is the greatest item to have for getting your infant to drift off to sleep. It might not work every time, but I have great success with it with our 2 month old and so have many of my friends who told me about this awesome product. My son loves the soft transitions of soft colors. When a brighter color is shown it causes him to close his eyes, and since he's tired (but refusing to sleep!) it encourages him to keep those eyes closed and finally go to sleep. It was worth the first night this arrived! An absolute MUST HAVE!

I bought this hoping it could help provide a little response if our baby woke up in the middle of the night... but the light is too bright for that purpose, I think. (it needs to have brightness settings!)
The sound sensor seemed a bit too insensitive, but frankly I did not even get to try out that feature. At least the device has the right type of hookup to be placed on the side of a crib.

This didn't work for my daughter but I suspect mostly because we introduced it when she was 7 months. I think making it more familiar to her earlier on, it might have soothed her. But when she woke up crying in the middle of the night(I think it was from night terrors), her cry would be louder than the crib sounds. So it's great that it's voice activated but I didn't see any success personally. The battery drain takes a pretty big hit on this product, in my opinion. Just 2-3 weeks leaving it on at night (for the voice activated feature to work) and they are gone. There isn't a whole lot on the market currently as far as voice activated sounds go, so that was the main reason I bought this one, plus the price ($13 including shipping). Wouldn't buy again and probably wouldn't recommend it.
Cons: Uses batteries really quickly (4 AA), pretty quiet, no other sounds besides "womb" sounds, feels cheap (plastic) Pros: option of just lights or just sound or both, attaches easily to the side of the crib (removable), small and lightweight so its easily transportable, voice activated.

I bought this for my daughter a few months ago. It does some things well, but needs some more features to truly do what the manufactures intended it to do.
Let's start with what it does well. The lights and sound are soothing. I've found that it does help my baby go to sleep/back to sleep. The manual start button is easy to press. This device has helped me create a sleep routine that helps my daughter, currently five months old, fall asleep quickly, both at bed time and nap time. The main problem with this device is the implementation of the voice activiate feature. The whole idea is that the sound of your baby fussing turns the lights and sound on and helps baby go back to sleep. I've found this to be pretty effecitive if it turns on right away. However, my daughter has to work up a pretty good wail before it turns on, which, in my opinion, rather defeats the purpose. I can get up and manually turn it on when she starts to fuss, and she'll usually fall back asleep. However, the whole point of getting something voice activated is so that I don't have to get up. On a lesser note, the attachment to the crib is rather clunky. It certainly attaches securely and is not a problem safety-wise, but you have to remove the entire device in order to change the batteries, typically about once a month. Again, this is a small thing, but for something that I need to take on and off easily, it is rather bothersome. Bottom Line: I am glad I purchaced this light. It has helped with getting my daughter to sleep. However, if they came out with one that had sensitivity adjustment for the voice activated feature, I'd buy it in a heart beat. |
