From Library Journal
Cox begins his book on the Munchkins with an account of how the troupe was assembled, and then tells how the midgets were filmed for The Wizard of Oz. After listing the names of all but two of the people who portrayed Munchkins (that's 122 names), Cox provides brief biographies (most based on individual interviews) for nearly 50 Munchkin actors. Finally, about 100 photos show the midget actors before, during, and long after Oz. There are two major problems with the book. First, Cox is not a particularly good writer. Second, his material is sufficient for an article, but not a book. For the most part, the midgets don't have anything of import to relate about the film. The best book on Oz , and an excellent book in its own right, is Aljean Harmetz's The Making of the Wizard of Oz (Knopf, 1977).
