5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best spanish albums in a while, September 19, 2004
This review is from: Mundo Lite (Audio CD)
I must confess that I was thinking about giving 4 or 5 stars to this album. However, After hearing it for a while, it is clear to me that the album deserves every bit of the 5 stars I gave to it. I was thinking that this was perhaps a good pop album, but clearly Mundo Lite is far more than that.

Aleks Syntek is a very well accomplished musician, songwriter, composer, producer, etc. A music genius since a very young age. Aleks style has always been a mix of pop with rock and always tries to experiment with different guitar and keyboard sounds. The result is music that while keeping with the spanish pop tradition always sounds fresh and creative.

In Mundo Lite, Aleks goes and mixes many different styles, from powerful ballads to well crafted pop mellodies to contagious rythms. The single "Duele el Amor" is not only a great song, but it also features the ellegant, distinctive voice of Ana Torroja, of world fame given her participation in the spanish group Mecano.

Other songs to look for are "Salva mi Corazon", another powerful duet with great a great mellody ; "Te Soné", a very powerful ballad and "Alguno de Estos Dias", which has great rythm and funky sounds.

All in all a fantastic album. It feels like Aleks keeps rising the bar with every new album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unmatched in today's Hispanic pop rock scene, January 27, 2005
This review is from: Mundo Lite (Audio CD)
Sometimes it doesn't matter too much what language someone sings in. This is the case of Aleks Syntek, a musical genius and an artist at the crest of the wave of Mexican pop rock artists of the past decade or so. He sings in Spanish, but his catchy tunes and human lyrics will not go unnoticed regardless of what language you speak.

I first heard of him back in 2000, when I listened to his classic song "El Camino", shortly after he successfully scored the Mexican movie "Sexo, Pudor y Lagrimas". Then, in 2004, I stumbled upon a song from this album where he sings alongside Ana Torroja, the former singer from the super-pop band from Spain, Mecano. It totally got me!

The only song I would remove from this album would be the techno version of "Duele El Amor", but other than this track, I found the entire album to be a solid production from end to end. Aleks is on par with the talent of artists like Diego Torres and Juanes, bringing in a unique touch of beats that are typical of the eighties acts (Kraftwerk, Howard Jones, etc.) that have much influenced his work over the years.

Quite frankly, comparing his current work with the spectrum of pop rock artists in the Hispanic scene today, it's hard to find a match. Aleks Syntek stands out in a way that's hard not to notice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Aleks Syntek's new album, May 15, 2004

Do you think that Mexican music is just mariachi?
You just need to listen an artist like Aleks to discover a new
face of latin avangard style. Influenced by Thomas Dolby,
Ben Folds, Steely Dan, Joe Jackson, etc., this Mexican Producer, composer, and singer is ready to change you point of view about latin mexican music. Mundo Lite is one of his best albums but you should listen his early job. Don't miss his duets with Ana Torroja & Soraya in MUNDO LITE.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best musicians in Latin America, March 24, 2005

This review is from: Mundo Lite (Audio CD)
This album is really mesmerizing. The music here is totally amazing, with a great sound athmosphere. Well balanced vocals, nice and well-chosen duets, gorgeous melodies... What else can you ask for?
For you who don't speak Spanish, I suggest to take a Spanish-speaking friend with you while you listen to the album, so you can understand the lyrics, but once you have the idea, you'll know the messages in Aleks' songs are powerful and heartfelt. I suggest you to listen to his other albums, since his music is timeless. Every song in his albums is good, but in this album, his music goes better.
A brief guide about the titles and their translation follows:
1. Tiempos de Paz (Peaceful Times)
2. Duele el Amor (Love Hurts -nothing to do with the Nazareth's song!-/Duet with Ana Torroja)
3. Arriesgando el Corazón (Gambling my Heart)
4. Te Soñé (I Dreamed of You)
5. Alguno de Estos Días (One of These Days)
6. Salva Mi Corazón (Save My Heart/Duet with Soraya)
7. A Veces Fui (Sometimes I Was)
8. Viviendo Por Ti (Living For You/Duet with Benny Ibarra)
9. Lo Que Tú Me Das (What You Give To Me)
10. Hombre de Fe (Man of Faith)
11. Duele el Amor [Versión Techno] (Love Hurts [Techno Version]/Duet with Ana Torroja)
12. Te Soñé [Versión Clásica] (I Dreamed of You [Classical Version])

5.0 out of 5 stars Impacting Music Lovers Beyond the Latin Community, October 16, 2005

As one who doesn't understand Spanish beyond "por favor," I have to say that Syntek has been filling a void in the musical and emotional wasteland of today's popular music. Like several of his other albums, there is not one bad track on "Mundo Lite." (Save for the Techno version of "Duele El Amor.") For those who love music in its purest form, this will take your breath away.

Latin or mainstream, there is nobody comparable to Aleks Syntek in today's music scene.

5.0 out of 5 stars Viva la Aleks Syntek!, June 24, 2005
This review is from: Mundo Lite (Audio CD)
When I compile a list of my all-time favorite songs, El Maestro, Aleks Syntek reigns supreme with the most tracks.

Mundo Lite is one of those rare CD's outside of greatest hits collections that you can listen to the entire thing without wanting to skip around to find a decent song.

Do not let a lack of Spanish proficiency halt you in purchasing this amazing CD. Believe me when I say his music transcends the language barrier. My absolute favorite on the CD is Aveces Fui.

5.0 out of 5 stars Like fine wine..., January 18, 2005
This review is from: Mundo Lite (Audio CD)
Aleks Syntek latest "solo" project is testament that some performers do keep getting better as time goes by. Not only has he not sold out, like some of his latin peers, by participating in the over-hyped "cross-over" phenomenon, but he has no qualms in experimenting with new sounds, and creating lyrics that are not only heartfelt, but are easily translatable to everyone's human experience.

His choice of duet partners (Soraya, Ana Torroja and Benny) are a clear reflection of his great taste. The women on his tracks (Salva mi Corazón and Duele el Amor, respectively) not only contribute with their rich, warm voices, but open the songs to a new dimension.

Compared to his previous album (Multiple), you can tell that he has decided to explore a more sentimental, but not mushy, side to human relationships, balanced with an appropriate dose of pop rock beats, some synth, and string arrangements, that bring in a more balanced sound and create great atmosphere.

I highly recommend this CD, and encourage you to explore his other releases (both solo and with La Gente Normal).
