This review is from: Muppets Show Best of 25th Anniversary Edition with Elton John, julie Andrews, gene Kelly (DVD)
THE MUPPET SHOW/BEST OF 25TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION featuring ELTON JOHN: Who better than flashy, feathered, flamboyantly attired ELTON JOHN to guest on JIM HENSON's irreverent kookfest disguised as a variety show? The 70s best loved pop rockin', piano poundin' peacock performs CROCODILE ROCK surrounded by singing gators in a swamp, duets with scene-hogging MISS PIGGY on DON'T GO BREAKIN' MY HEART, and unspools a lovely, perfectly straight version of GOODBYE YELLOW BRICK ROAD backed by DR. TEETH & THE ELECTRIC MAYHEM. Wardrobe jokes, kaleidoscopic colors, and slapstick schtick abound on this wonderfully wacky episode. Bubbly songbird JULIE ANDREWS and suave, ever smiling GENE KELLY, no small potatoes on the music landscape themselves, appear on this DVD's other pair of segments. ANDREWS good naturedly warbles a SOUND OF MUSIC ditty among mountain goats, while KELLY shimmies with KERMIT and reprises a snippet of (what else?) SINGIN' IN THE RAIN. A pun, a song, a little dance, a little seltzer in your pants...THE MUPPET SHOW truly delivered something for everyone.RATING: FIVE HIGH NOTES |
