1.0 out of 5 stars Total disappointment
I bought this book to learn Muraqaba. There is no "how" of Muraqaba in the book, all "why"s. It just says, "Muraqaba is concentration on a thought or idea" Well I knew that, but how? It is not a guide-book. If you want to learn muraqaba, do not buy the book.

5.0 out of 5 stars A profoundly written and moving guide, April 12, 2005
This review is from: Muraqaba: Art and Science of Sufi Meditation (Hardcover)
Muraqaba: The Art And Science Of Sufi Meditation is an introduction to the healing practice of Muraqaba, Sufi meditation. Presenting a 16-week program that the novice can follow to improve memory and general well-being, and offer a guideline to enlightenment, author Shaykh Khwaja Shamsuddin Azeemi, the Patriarch of the Sufi Order of Azeemia and renowned spiritual scholar, walks the reader through both the techniques and the underlying ideas behind them, with sample exercises each step of the way. A profoundly written and moving guide, as much about God and human's place in the cosmos as about mental relaxation, Muraqaba is especially recommended to broaden the experience of novice and experienced practitioners of meditation, yet also a welcome addition to religious reference and studies shelves.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highlighting Meditation but also the factors that can help one to purify inner, January 9, 2009
This review is from: Muraqaba: Art and Science of Sufi Meditation (Hardcover)
This is an advance level book on meditation; Not only highlight secrets of Meditation but also the factors that can help one to purify his inner and get familiar with the ultimate truth of this universe. Meditation is the quickest way of achieving this truth. This book would be an eye opener for the one whose objective is to learn & apply spiritualism in life. I would also like to advice reader of this book to go through it number of times because everytime it would reveal something on you that you had not understood before including the relationship of science & spiritualism. No one had seen electron but with a firm believe of its existence many theories were proposed and inventions took place on that assumption . Similarly spiritualism reveal laws of universe on those who seek guidance from it. From where does the idea comes into the mind of scientist which urges him to research? That unknown & unseen place which transmits the idea to us and specifically to scientist can only been seen with spiritual eye. Existance of science is challengeable in the absence of spiritualism.

This review is from: Muraqaba: Art and Science of Sufi Meditation (Hardcover)
This is by far the best book written on Meditation that covers Self-Healing with the 'How' in detail, including posture positions, timing and other details. It also has exercises similar to pranayama and trataka for Concentration. All in all Muraqaba has lot of good stuff in it like Color-Meditation, dreams, Sungazing, stories and is a good reference book.

4.0 out of 5 stars English as first language, January 15, 2009

This review is from: Muraqaba: Art and Science of Sufi Meditation (Hardcover)
I agree with the above reviews regarding the quality of this work. The problem is the translation and editing. The work should have been edited by someone who has english as a first language. I am sure the translation was a very difficult task and warrents praise, however, due to editing errors parts of the book are difficult to absorb the intended meaning. Every page needs correcting.

This book so far is the best out of the few dozen books on meditation that I have read. It is clear and uncomplicated. It gives the beginner not only the how, but also the why, about meditation in language anyone can comprehend and absorb. It's well-organized and the author shares a wealth of contemplative experience and insight.

This book is very unique and special. It's contents are precious in every way. The author describes the chemistry of real life or reality of ourselves as well as the cosmos. It is definitely recommended for novices and experts on the path of Truth(Tasawwuf). Whoever is interested in Sufism should read this book BEFORE any other on the subject. It's the practical door opener to the unseen realm. Through this book discover the limitless powers God has given to each person and know why God has made man His deputy upon this earth. It's a definite BUY, whoever misses this book has missed his self realization. It will change your life for the best.
