5.0 out of 5 stars Nice Cozy!
This is a nice cozy mystery in a series set in Wilmington, NC. I spent many summers on the NC coast (being from the NC mountains we wanted to vacation on the beach!) and was surprised that there was a series based there. A pleasant surprise. Reads like a true southern mystery & makes you want to "head on up there!" Characters are set up well, the story reads smoothly &...

A pleasant mystery/romance set in Wilmington, NC during the Azalea Festival, this mystery features lots of the television and movie people who stay there because of the large production company. Quite atmospheric, with lots of Victorian architecture, Wilmington history, and I'm sure many main characters are lightly disguised members of that community. I think it would be of limited interest to readers who've never been to Wilmington, but it was quite enjoyable to me, as even after one visit to that city I could recognize places and streets quite easily. Extremely "southern" woman amateur detective was fun, and the plot had its moments.

Reads like a true southern mystery & makes you want to "head on up there!" Characters are set up well, the story reads smoothly & the ending is tidy. Lots of fun & a great beach read! I'm glad Harlequin is reprinting this authers books.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable Read, June 25, 2011

This novel was a delightful romp through Wilmington, NC's historic district as sleuth Ashley Wilkes, and her new partner, Joe set forth to restore "Moon Gate" a house of actress Tiffany Talliere. Tiffany and her brother, Auguste, now have the finances needed to bring the house back to it's former glory.

While beginning the restoration, Ashley and Joe learn the house was built on scandals back in the day. A guest is poisoned during an open house and Ashley is off to try and solve the crime.

The characters are enjoyable and the Author took a chance and dated the book by talking about real life stars such as John Travolta and Clay Aikens. This made the book far more fun to read.

This was a cozy to remember.

5.0 out of 5 stars A MYSTERY that takes place in Wilmington, NC., July 30, 2007
This review is from: Murder at the Azalea Festival (Magnolia Mysteries) (Paperback)
I live in Wilmington, NC and I was thrilled to find this series, I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys reading mysteries and the scenic and historic coast of North Carolina.

Ashley Wilkes, a Wilmington Native, lived in Wilmington as a child and now works as a historic preservationists there as well as her sister Melanie who is a realtor. This books takes place right in the middle of the Azalea Festival in April and the book is so decriptive and informative you learn so much about this great town in it! Well everything was fine there, until some dead bodies show uup on the shore with no way to identify them and an actress from tv series "Dolphin's Cove" gets poisoned. Ashley was working on restoring a historic home called Moon Gate and seems to be in the middle of all the action. Does the house or the people in it have some connection to the Murder(S) at the Azalea Festival?

Wonderful author. This is another great mystery. Not every book can make you feel like you are in the story, but this one does. Everyone should own a copy of this series. Down home good!!!!
