Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

Kate, Victoria, and Stella were best friends at boarding school but lost touch until a chance meeting decades. Stella, the most outrageous of the trio, is a wealthy divorcee with a teenage daughter. Kate has married a once-famous actor who treats her badly and has burdened her with an ill-behaved stepson. Stella is dismayed at the way Kate's husband treats her and, half in jest, vows to "get" him. Unbeknownst to Kate, she begins an affair with the man, hoping this will give her leverage to blackmail him. But when Kate's stepson dies in a^B drug-induced fall, and Stella's teen daughter nearly dies from a botched abortion, the blackmail plot becomes secondary. More tragedy follows when Stella is murdered at her remote country cottage. Enter her old friend Inspector Hayes, who must find Stella's killer and unravel the unexpected connections between her death and the tragic events that led to it. Solid plot, intriguing (though not always likable) characters, and unexpected twists. Emily Melton
