I knew it!,
This review is from: The Murder Castle of HH Holmes: Eyewitness Accounts, Diagrams, and Photos (Chicago Unbelievable) (Kindle Edition)
I thought there must be parts of DEVIL IN THE WHITE CITY that weren't quite right. This blows some holes in two big parts:
1. The the police in Chicago knew nothing of Holmes 2. That the castle burned down in 1895. This is rather short - a collection of vintage interviews with people from nearby, mostly. But it's info no Holmes buff should be without, and it's really interesting to see what people thought about him back then. I disagree with Griffith about Holmes' number of victims being exaggerated. he thinks it's closer to two dozen than two hundred. Not me! Very interesting to see the pictures of the castle through the years.

The author makes a good case that everything about Holmes was exagerated. Interesting building certainly, and the author casts doubt where it rightfully belongs.
