19th century bad soap opera, October 28, 2010
this is a true story of a cold blooded murder. it happened in albany, new york on
may 7th, 1827. the TWO murderers were elsie whipple and jesse strang. the victim
was john whipple, elsie's hasband. this is a story of lies, misguided emotions, and
the "class system" at that time-wealthy vs the lower middle class.
i am sorry to say, only ONE man paid the price for the murder and that was jesse strang. his partner in crime, the "femme fatale",mrs. elsie whipple got away with
it all:she was from wealth, she was from one of the most prominent families in
albany and,she was a woman. all evidence showed her involvment from day one but,
the one who was hanged was, jesse strang.
what amazed me is that there were warning signs that something would happen but, others in the household chose to ignore it. this is just a sad footnote in
the history of new york. a man was murdered and for what??? so a couple of
emotionally unstable people could have a meaningless tryst? shame.
