Book Description

January 16, 2002
Bud Nevers, the CEO of the Nevers’ Computer Technology Company in Silicon Valley is murdered. Detective Tom Hoffman and his partner Detective Cliff Maxhimer suspect the president, Ken Weber. Their suspicion heightens when the accountant, Ryan Conners is found dead in his office in what appears an act of suicide. Further investigation proves the financial books have been tampered with and Conners was embezzling large amounts of money from the company. It appears that Ken and Ryan were in this together. Bud’s wife, Angie suddenly finds herself being blackmailed by Melinda Smith, a beautiful young woman, claiming to be Bud’s illegitimate daughter. To her horror Angie discovers that Marty Casales, her housekeeper of over twenty years is Melinda’s mother. To unravel the twists and turns read: MURDER.COM

About the Author

Born and raised in Oklahoma, Betty Sullivan La Pierre attended the Oklahoma College for Women and the University of Oklahoma, graduating with her BS degree in Speech Therapy with a Specialty in the Deaf. Once married, she moved to California with her husband. When her husband was killed in an automobile accident, she was left with two young boys to raise. She is now remarried and has had another son through that marriage. Ms. La Pierre has lived in the Silicon Valley (California) for many years. At one time, she owned a Mail Order Used Book business dealing mainly in signed and rare books, but phased it out because it took up too much of her writing time. She’s an avid reader, belongs to the Wednesday Writers’ Society, and periodically attends functions of other writing organizations. She writes Mystery/Suspense/Thriller novels, which are published in digital format and print. Her Hawkman Mystery Series is developing quite a fan base. She’s also written two stand-alone mystery/thrillers and plans to continue writing. ‘BLACKOUT,’ Betty’s story about a bingo hall (of the Hawkman Series), ranked in the top ten of the P&E Reader’s Poll, and won the 2003 BLOODY DAGGER AWARD for best Mystery/Suspense. EuroReviews recently picked ‘THE DEADLY THORN’ (One of Betty’s stand alone thrillers) for their 2005 May Book of the Month.

4.0 out of 5 stars 4 Flags from Euro-Reviews, July 14, 2005

In Murder.com, Betty Sullivan La Pierre gives us a mystery that will make you think and wonder...

While Bud and his charming wife Angie are celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary, Bud is murdered. Left behind is his devastated wife, Angie.

In the aftermath of his death, she starts to find out things about Bud she can hardly believe they're true. It looks like her husband wasn't exactly the sort of man he seemed to be.

The person who is going to investigate Bud's death is Tom Hoffman. But the job isn't going to be an easy task. All evidence points to Bud's partner, Ken Weber, but Tom has his doubts. He thinks there's more to it.

There are many events in Murder.com, which are designed to be a bit confusing, thus keeping the reader guessing as to the outcome. The character Tom Hoffman is a strong individual. Tom is someone who thinks it is important to find out who committed the murder. What I like a lot is that things aren't always the way they appear to be and the plot is surprisingly.and definitely not what you would expect either! If you like to read mystery books, I recommend Murder.com to you!

4.0 out of 5 stars Loved it!, February 10, 2004
This review is from: Murder.Com (Paperback)
I love a good mystery that keeps me guessing right up until the end. Ms. La Pierre had so many suspects it invaded my dreams as I tried to figure out who did it!

Bud Nevers is murdered after a mysterious young lady shows up at a party he and his wife were hosting.

After her husband is killed, Angie Nevers learns a secret that makes her wonder if she even knew her husband at all, even after 25 years of marriage.

Tom Hoffman investigates Bud's untimely death, frustrated by locked computer files. The files they could open suggested the company was clean--too clean. And they couldn't find the dummy business a young accountant warned Bud about.

The evidence keeps pointing back to Ken Weber, Bud's partner. Ken is uncooperative and stood to gain a lot from Bud's death. He becomes angry and hostile, taking it out on his wife and kids.

Throw in a few well-placed characters, and you'll have a time trying to figure out "whodunit". Ms. La Pierre is a great mystery author, and I plan on enjoying more of her novels in the future.
