Sophie Commits 'Murder',

The vocalist behind the definitive disco house anthem, Spiller's infectious "Groovejet (If This Ain't Love)", finally makes her US solo debut with the release of her dance smash "Murder On The Dancefloor". The second single released from her "Read My Lips" album in the UK, it was a chart smash for the posh pop tart. The song itself is fiery retro disco pop, her unique voice working through the anthemic party lyrics. The tracklisting for this particular single release of the track is rather good, at four cuts.1. Murder On The Dancefloor - Radio Edit 2. Murder On The Dancefloor - Extended Album Version 3. Murder On The Dancefloor - Jewels & Stone Remix 4. Murder On The Dancefloor - Parky & Birchy Remix A nicely put together remix package if I do say so, Sophie's "Murder" deserves to climb Billboard's Hot 100, just like it did the British Top 75. Great dance pop.

This is the first US release (but 2nd in the UK ) for the lovely Sophie Ellis Bextor. I had bought the import in February of 2002 and fell in love with not only the song but her voice. So much so that I bought her Read My Lips cd in it's original and newly expanded versions. This should be coming out in the US soon so we can play catch up with this song. Written with New Radicals and producer guru Gregg Alexander the song is just magical. The cd comes in 4 versions and not a bad mix here at all! Track 1 is the radio edit(3:37) and track 2 is the Extended Album Version(5:32) and in a word very Salsoul! DISCO!!! It is then followed by track 3 the Jewels & Stone Remix(5:39). These guys did the remix to her first single "Take Me Home" and really make it even better. The Parky & Birchy Remix(7:24) is from the UK cd single and to me still the best mix of the song. Retro yet very contemorary in sound . Just came in the Billboard dance chart and hopefully will become the smash it deserves to be. Gorgeous!!!

I couldn't wait to get this CD. I saw the video in Germany and fell in love with Sophie. First track: As expected--colorful synthesizers and a great disco beat. Second track: a bit futuristic, which is why some consider her to be "electronica" instead of pop. Third track: The first minute is good. It builds and builds into--nothing. The synthesizers seem to be less prominent in this version. In the middle of the song is a repetitous saxaphone and trumpet lick and a walking beat that doesnt enhance Sophie, but overtakes her. If you dont like that part, you may not like track 3. Fourth track: What I thought would be an audio verion on the video, turned out to be THE VIDEO ON CD ROM!!!!! While I was disappointed with the remix version in track 3, the video version more than makes up for it. It would have been 5 stars if I liked the remix. If you havent seen the video, I would definitely suggest getting this CD. Im thrilled to have a copy of it.

I recently became familiar with Sophie Ellis Bextor while travelling in Italy, where "Murder on the Dancefloor" (MOTD) is always on the radio, TV, and being played at the disco. MOTD is witty and memorable...a fine showcase for S.E.B.'s disco diva voice and wry style. The video on this disc is in Quick Time format (self-installing player software included, if you don't have it already), and is the main reason I chose this single. It's a great little video. The concept is a ballroom dance contest that S.E.B. will do anything to win (including murder).

Best Song EVER !!!,
This review is from: Murder on the Dancefloor (Audio CD)
Murder On The Dancefloor is an excellent pop/disco song, very catchy, and makes you want to dance and sing a long. Sophie's first album "Read My Lips" is awesome ! She sings with her posh english accent all the fab tracks, but Murder is simply brilliant. I personally Recommend: "Murder...", "Take Me Home", "Get Over You", "Music Gets The Best Of Me" & "Groovejet (If This Ain't Love)". She will be touring the UK (JAN/FEB) and Europe in march. Do yourself a favor and go to one of her concerts.

Oh my God, if you haven't already familiarised yourself with Miss Ellis Bextor yet, then now is the time to do it. Her second single, far more superior to her earlier works, is not only the best song from the album, it is also the best song in the world!! This infectious little number is complete with a sexy, yet glamourously trashy, video and more disco than any revival material from the last few years. This girl really knows what she is doing. I brought the album months before the single was released, and my eyes still light up when it is played, 3 months after its release. It is the kind of song that has 'classic' written all over it and I'm sure I'll still be rockin' to it well into my fifties. Sophie, keep up the good work. The album is fantastic, you are fantastic and this single is truly divine!

I also discovered Sophie Ellis Bextor while in Europe this summer (2002). She was all over the radio in the French Riviera, and the MOTD track is super infectious ... I wish they played it on the radio and in clubs here. Oh well.

Sophie rules. You won't find a more catchy, ruthless dance pop record all year. Kylie - get out of the way.
