Book Description

Twelve people arrive at a remote inn to spend the weekend. After dark, the doors and windows are locked, the lights go out, and someone starts murdering the guests. Is the murderer one of the twelve or someone else? Each guest must decide whether he or she should form a bond with any of the other guests, none of whom appear to be a murderer. Those guests, chosen specifically by the murderer, include a doctor, a judge, a private detective, a kindergarten teacher, a firefighter, a mystery author, a librarian, a taxidermist, a real estate agent, an insurance agent, a funeral director, and a computer programmer. Is the murderer one of them, the butler, or the owner, who is blind and confined to a wheelchair? Or did someone else find a way to sneak into the inn?

3.0 out of 5 stars Was the author being paid by the word? October 7, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I liked the premise of the book enough to keep reading, but oh my, the author's writing style was way, way, way too wordy. He devoted endless paragraphs to drivel about roads, landmarks, and related nonsense that would make no sense to anyone except those living in the Kentucky location. It's almost like he felt like he had to prove that he had done his research about the roads. And, much of the dialogue was inappropriate for people that were really in that type of harrowing situation. I mean, who engages in flirtatious banter when a crazed murderer is on your trail and you are immersed in total darkness? A lot of it was just not believable and seemed like the author used precise geographical filler to try and make up for the holes in the plot. One final comment - who in the world would return to a murderous dwelling when they have finally escaped? Just for a few hours of sleep? That was where it finally fell apart for me.

Was interesting enough that I finished it, but the wordiness and improbable plot would be enough to make me not read another book by this author.

3.0 out of 5 stars The author tried too hard to deliver -- so he failed November 1, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book has an interesting premise and -- even if it does fall apart at the end (which it does) -- it was a decent effort by an indie author. The problem is that sometimes less is more. In this case, Demaree tries to prove that he's really smart so he overwrites the book. When you overwrite a book, boredom and ennui take over. I had to force myself to finish this. When I did, the ending was so bad that I had to stop myself from coming on and writing a one-star review right away. After a few days, I've calmed down enough to say that this book isn't terrible. That's the best I can say.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Concept January 28, 2014
By Georgi
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This was a good concept just not executed very well. I really liked the idea of the story and it started out good....until they arrived at the castle....where it went bad for me. The constant nonsensical banter between the two main characters was boring; I just wanted the murder mystery to continue. The book could've been cut in half. I did finish it yesterday and today just find it a little silly. Maybe that's what the author was going for.

Good until the end, the book had you caught in the excitement and thrills and then the end came up and it was horrible

3.0 out of 5 stars Where was Santangelo April 6, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I kept waiting for Santangelo to show up. Started with a great premise, but tried too hard to build the suspense. OK story, but Agatha Christie did it much better.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not good November 13, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Couldn't get into it. Not very well written and boring. I read about a quarter of it before I had to stop, wouldn't recommend.

1.0 out of 5 stars agatha christie rip off May 29, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
He took the plot of an Agatha christie book, changed the location and time period and changed the last few pages of the plot. You can't guess who did it because the character plays no part in the story until the end. The writing was mediocre and could have benefited from being proofread.
