4.0 out of 5 stars Great Story
First I have to say that "street lit" is not exactly my genre of choice. Having said that I will say this is the first book of that genre that I really liked. The story line kept my attention and interest. Not only did the book have a great story line but it also has a message about the dangers of guns, especially in the hands of criminals. I agree with the above review...

In MURDER WITH A DEADLY WEAPON, Thomas Overton chronicles the life of a nine-millimeter gun, "Glock Nine GN9-684-231". Not only does Glock Nine star as the integral character of the novel, it actually narrates short passages of the book adding a unique touch. Glock Nine was manufactured to be utilized by law enforcement officials but once it falls into the wrong hands it's transformed into a killer.

Glock Nine is immediately thrust into the wrong hands in the opening chapter of the novel when the pawnshop it's residing in gets robbed and it's part of the spoils. As it's passed from person to person, all of its subsequent owners take on the role of secondary characters, most of whom are facing personal dilemmas that possessing Glock Nine can only further complicate. Other notable characters are Detectives Usef Peterson and Karen James who are assigned to the pawnshop robbery case and have the difficult task of hunting down Glock Nine before any more lives are taken.

MURDER WITH A DEADLY WEAPON was a very uncomplicated read, so much so that if not for its violent theme, it could have be geared toward young adults, most of whom would definitely benefit from the anti-violence lessons that are found within the book. Overton resonates this theme and, at the same time, tell the story without becoming too preachy. Or, at least when he does become preachy, readers will hear the voice of Glock Nine doing the preaching, as it displays outrage in the manner in which it's being utilized.

3.0 out of 5 stars Deadly Consequences, March 19, 2009
This review is from: Murder With A Deadly Weapon (Paperback)
What happens when guns are put in the wrong hands? Thomas Overton created a tale told from a gun's point of view. He describes how horrible the gun feels when children and a bunch of innocent people are being murdered. The intentions of Smith & Wesson when manufacturing the guns were for military and police use and not everyday people looking to commit a crime. The story goes on to many different scenes, allowing the reader to see just how easy it is to get a hold of a gun and take a person's life for no reason at all. One slip can determine a person's fate and cause havoc on a whole community.

I understood the moral point of the story in Murder With A Deadly Weapon. However, the story was slow all the way through. I'm not sure if it was the language or the way it was told, but it didn't hold my attention. Overton could have just told the story and not included paragraphs from the gun's point of view. This is just my opinion, but I think when authors use something really imaginary and unbelievable, it turns me off from the actual storyline. Mr. Overton did bring every scenario together with how the gun went from one person to the next person. Murder With A Deadly Weapon just wasn't it for me, but Thomas Overton certainly has a true talent for writing.

5.0 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC! A must read for ALL, especially parents!, June 26, 2011

This review is from: Murder With A Deadly Weapon (Paperback)
I purchased this book because the author is from my hometown of Darby,PA. Once I purchased it, I could not put it down! Tommy has great talent but what's more important is the message that is sent in this writing. Although it is fictional, it really opens your eyes to the dangers of weapons in the wrong hands. It's a great precautionary measure as it makes you really think twice about what is happening today and the steps we need to take as parents and responsible citizens. I highly recommend it to all!

5.0 out of 5 stars GN9-684-231, April 6, 2009
This review is from: Murder With A Deadly Weapon (Paperback)
Have you ever wondered how many hands a dollar in your pocket has passed through before it reached yours? Maybe a fleeting thought but I am sure you have at some point. MURDER WITH A DEADLEY WEAPON by Thomas Overton, shows how many hands a gun can pass through and how many lives can be taken with that one gun. This is the story told from the gun's point of view.

When a pawn shop is held up and robbed for its guns and money, one of these guns, a nine-millimeter Glock is used in a murder. Throughout the book this particular gun, passes through several different people and used in horrendous crimes.

Detective's Peterson and James are dedicated professionals that are trying to take illegal firearms off the street even it they have to do it one gun at a time. They are determined to track down the gun that was used in the robbery of the pawn shop, but it proves to be more difficult than either of them expected.

MURDER WITH A DEADLEY WEAPON was truly a unique story. Mr. Overton makes it a point to show the readers how serious illegal firearms can infect a neighborhood and families. You will be shocked at how many hands and the destruction one illegal firearm can do.

The story moved fast and had me at the edge of my seat, waiting to see how the story unfolds. This is a must read. Mr. Overton truly has a talent for writing. I look forward to reading more by this author.

My final rating: 4.5 stars, due to minor editing issues.
