Book Description

When corporate trainer Lysi Weston attends a conference in Sydney, Australia, g’day turns into a very bad day after her Harlem-born colleague, Grace Wright, stumbles on the battered body of a childhood friend. Determined to sniff out the murderer, Lysi embarks on a labyrinth of trails that lead her to suspect a womanizing cop, a suave Black businessman and a voyeur who videos his victims.
Handsome Detective Maynard Christie tolerates Lysi’s meddling in his case until it jeopardizes his investigation. He orders her to stay out of his way, a directive she ignores. Both irritated with and attracted to her he begins to long for the quiet life on his Outback sheep station.
What Lysi does not anticipate is Grace succumbing to the charms of the prime suspect. A second homicide leads Lysi to an unexpected rendezvous with the murderer who is set on eliminating the last piece of incriminating evidence–Lysi Weston.

Editorial Reviews

From the Author

Writing has always come easy to me. I remember writing little social studies plays for school when I was in third grade. My teachers encouraged me and I continued writing for the rest of my life. I've always loved reading mystery novels and short stories, so it seemed natural that I would write in this genre when I decided to write professionally.

The inspiration for the Lysi Weston series comes from two sources. One source is simply my life experiences. The other relates to my many travel experiences. For example, one book is set in Montana; another in Australia and my current effort is set in South Africa--all places I've visited. "Murder Down Under" resulted from the wonderful experiences I had with Australians, their unique history and their incredibly diverse country.

5.0 out of 5 stars A G'Day for a Mystery! June 21, 2012
By Jessica
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Nancy Curteman's novel, Murder Down Under, is a fast paced case full of twists and turns- and plenty of red herrings. One minute I am suspecting the sweet old landlady offering up her sweet chocolates, and the next I am keeping my eyes on the Head Detective Christie! Curteman's novel is full of Australian history; she plugs many things into the novel, from local favorites of food and drink, to compelling nuggets of info on the native Aborigine. I found myself drawn into the setting, wanting to travel myself to the great Outback! Curteman makes sure to leave her chapters in cliffhanger mode, leaving the reader to try and figure out her vast array of clues and red herrings. A small sidetrack into romance is an added plus, and you can't help but root for Lysi and Maynard to find a way to trust in relationships again. A great read- recommended to all fans of mystery!

I found this book quite captivating, holding my interest throughout. It's about an area quite unkown to me ,so, naturally I was interested in the descriptions of areas and sites as well as new activities. A very good read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Review of Nancy Curteman's 'Murder Down Under' February 2, 2013
Format:Paperback
Reviewed by Stefan Vucak: ****

Lysi Weston and Grace Wright arrive in Sydney, Australia, from San Francisco for a conference on sexual harassment. They find Grace's friend Marita Rendeau dead in an alley. Not satisfied with the casual approach to the murder investigation run by Detective Christie, the two decide to do some sleuth work of their own. Pretty soon, Christie and Lysi get friendly and he takes her sightseeing around Alice Springs. In the meantime, Grace goes out with Marita's fiancé. Bit by bit, clues are uncovered that seem to point to a cop as the culprit, but the story takes a surprising twist when the real murderer is revealed.

With `Murder Down Under', Nancy Curteman takes the reader through a fast paced murder mystery, throwing in a glimpse of Australian lifestyle. Her writing is crisp and easy to read, with excellent dialogue. The plotting is straightforward and the reader doesn't have to follow any tortuous routes. The story has a lot of secondary dialogue between the two women that is engaging and provides a window into their backgrounds and relationship. An entertaining read.
