Ellie Quick (
Murder at the Altar, 2000;
Murder by Accident, 2003), avid gardener and unlikely sleuth, is helping her new neighbors restore the neglected garden on their property. While digging a hole for a fountain, they discover a body. Who was the victim, and how long has the body been there? Ellie is the only long-term resident of the neighborhood, and she tries to remember all of the past occupants of the house. It seems that her previous neighbors all had less-than-sterling reputations. As Ellie deals with her shrewish daughter, who is in the process of a divorce, and begins to emerge from the shadow of her domineering late husband, she considers the family that may have been involved in the murder. Meanwhile, the killers are busy trying to cover up their deed by framing someone else. Fans of the series and cozy aficionados will find Ellie's new adventure entertaining.
