Side-splitting - can't miss it!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Murder Gets A Life (A Souther Sisters Mystery) (Mass Market Paperback)
Anne George has quickly become one of my favorite authors. Not only are her mysteries top notch, but the antics of Patricia Anne and Sister remind me so much of my grandmother and aunt. The dialogue is peppered with southern wit and charm. This is by far the funniest and most intricately plotted of all Anne George's books so far. It kept me in stitches the entire time. In fact, my boyfriend, who reads only science fiction became so interested with the bits and pieces of humor that I would read to him, that I had to read the book twice! Once to myself and once outloud to him. We both laughed until we cried. He especially enjoyed my rendition of the story, since I am from the south. His quote was "you make it sound so funny with your accent, that it wouldn't be the same if I read it myself". But as much as I enjoyed it, I would read it again!

Another delight,

This is absolutely my favorite series of mysteries! I've read every available letter of the Milhone/alphabet series. I've been chilled and thrilled by Scarpetta and Lucy. I'm a fan of VI Warshawsky's and Amanda Pepper's. But NONE of those series is as consistently delightful as these mysteries crafted by Ms. George! She has a special sense of her characters, their place and their time. The dialog is unique, fresh and funny. The plots -- while not too violent or hair-raising -- are designed to keep us guessing. And the characters feel like old friends. I have a few quibbles with this book (more about what happened to some of the characters after it ended would have been appreciated). But by and large, this was one of the most pleasant light reads I've enjoyed in a long time. (And I enjoy the artwork on the cover of her paperbacks, too.)

A Curious George reviews Anne's Book!,

I got hooked on Anne George's books because my sister-in-law introduced them to me while visiting family in Alabama (that's where my husband is from!). After making the yearly trips to visit family for almost 18 years, I felt I was somewhat familiar with the state and have come to love my visits there. I enjoy the way Anne sprinkles alot about her state in these books! While reading I can say "I've been there, I've seen that!" or "I know someone who talks exactly that way!" I found myself laughing out loud while reading, making the rest of my family very curious! I picked up my sister-in-law's book "MURDER GETS A LIFE" and didn't put it down til I was done with it. Then I beat it to the mall to pick up another one!(Murder Runs in the Family) Such a fun author and such surprise endings! These books truly are great summertime reading! I can't wait to get another one! Thanks, Anne! PS: I love your last name! Hmm, I wonder if we're related!

This book was so funny!,

This review is from: Murder Gets a Life: A Southern Sisters Mystery (Beeler Large Print Mystery Series) (Hardcover)
I made the mistake of just picking up one of Anne's books - Murder Gets a Life - not a mistake in that it was a bad book but that I started in the middle of her books. I can't remember laughing so hard reading a book in my life. I went out and bought the first three and plan on reading all of them - in order this time. I'm just so sad that she passed away in March though, now I know that there will be no more of these treasures to look forward to in the future!

More Fun with the Southern Sisters,
This review is from: Murder Gets A Life (A Souther Sisters Mystery) (Mass Market Paperback)
Patrica Ann and Mary Alice are back and better than ever, finding trouble in the most unusual places. It seems that Mary Alice's son, Ray, owner of a dive-expedition business in Bora Bora, has gotten married. The lucky lady is Sunshine Dabbs, of the Locust Fork Alabama, Turkett family, who met Ray when she won a trip to Bora Bora on Wheel of Fortune. Mary Alice thinks Sunshine is just as pretty as a Barbie Doll and since Locust Fork is just a few minutes away from Birmingham, the southern sister's home, she talks Patricia Ann into coming with her to do a little snooping and meet the new in-laws, Meemaw and Pawpaw Turkett. Unfortunately, upon entering Meemaw's trailer, they stumble over a body impaled to the floor with a hog-butchering knife. And to make matters even worse, Sunshine is missing.....Ann George has written a witty, light-hearted mystery full of quirky, original characters and great southern humor. Her writing is down to earth, funny, full of irreverent dialogue and laugh-out-loud scenes. Easily read in one sitting, Murder Gets a Life is just pure entertainment.

One of the Funniest Mystery Series Ever!!,
By
This review is from: Murder Gets A Life (A Souther Sisters Mystery) (Mass Market Paperback)
"Murder Gets A Life" is the 5th book in one of the funniest mystery series ever written. Anne George has left a WONDERFUL legacy. Her books are not only hilarious in dialogue, but the mystery plots are really, really GOOD.The Southern Sisters Mystery Series stars our two 60-ish siblings, Patricia Anne (retired schoolteacher, reserved, happily married to Fred for 40 yrs., petite) and Mary Alice (250+ lbs., a foot taller than Patricia Anne, rich after burying three husbands, brassy, bold, and impulsive). The dialogue that ensues between them is priceless! In "Murder Gets a Life," we find that Mary Alice has met her match with Meemaw. Mary Alice's son, Ray, has married a cute little Barbie doll named Sunshine down in Bora Bora. Unfortunately, Sunshine's relatives are "as common as pig tracks." Her Grandmother, Meemaw, is even giving Mary Alice a run for her money! As uptight Sheriff Reuse tells Mary Alice when he learns whom she has inherited as in-laws - "There IS a God!" You will LOVE this series. I highly recommend that you buy them ALL and read them in sequence. You will not regret it!

Anne, if you read this reviews, I just want you to know that you have become my new favorite author!I discovered one of Ms. George's books sort of "by accident" at the library and loved it -- the characters, the plot, and of course the humor, which is truly laugh-out-loud (it's not just a cliche). I immediately went to Borders and bought all the "Southern Sisters" books I could get my hands on. In a world where "New York Times Bestsellers" disappoint more than not, it's wonderful to discover an author like this one. She's a treasure.

This was the first "Southern sisters mystery" I read and couldn't put it down. Anne George's style is hilarious and I love the banter between the different characters. I've begun reading the other titles and only hope she will continue for the rest of my life. Kudos, Ms. George.
