5.0 out of 5 stars Well written, September 6, 2011
Ashley Wilkes has taken on the job of restoring a historic home in Wilmington. This home has a rumor of being haunted. People have heard the organ being played at night.
The home went up for auction after the taxes weren't paid. It was bought by a television star, similar to Martha Stewart, who wants to revamp the kitchen into a set for her cooking show. When they tear out the old dumb waiter they discover two bodies. It must be the previous owners, who were thought to be touring Europe.

This is a pleasantly told mystery with many turns and surprising moments. It captures the history of older homes in the South. While it answers the question about the organ being played in realistic logic, it also leaves the question of ghosts open to the imagination.

I also recommend Stars Shine After Dark, now available as a Kindle.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting read, December 12, 2011
I read this one a while back and while it is part of a longstanding series by the author, it stands alone as do all of her novels in this series.

The storyline was simple enough and I had figured out the story before the book ended. Still, I was entertained and would read more books by this author.

4.0 out of 5 stars Southern Charm, January 30, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I originally bought this book because it was .99cents. After reading it I bought the second in the series, and after reading that one I bought the other seven. I really enjoyed all of them, the plot and character development were good and the Southern setting entertaining. I'm waiting for the next one!

4.0 out of 5 stars Can't go wrong for 99 cents!, January 29, 2012

This ebook was 99 cents when I purchased it. If it's still at that price, I say you should buy it. It's not bad at all! (You know how sometimes 99 cent books aren't the best.) It's a good introduction to the series; you get to well-acquainted with everybody who will be in all the future books. And that's a good thing because probably after you read this, you'll want to read the others as well. I did. As soon as I finished this one, I purchased the next in the series.

It's not that great of a mystery, but the characters are engaging (even the ones who aren't, are!). I don't know if you will figure it out ahead of time, as in this case at least, the author went for the Agatha Christie-type killer: the very last person you'd suspect.

There's lots of marvelous local Southern color here and it blends smoothly into the book, unlike some books I've read where the local color just seems to be in there to pad the story.
