One of my Favorite Cozy Series!, August 3, 2006
This review is from: Murder on a Girls' Night Out
In the 1st book in the Southern Sisters mystery series, we meet charming sisters Patricia Anne (aka Mouse) and Mary Alice (aka Sister). These plucky sisters are in their sixties, and enjoying happy lives watching their children mature and have babies of their own. Patricia Anne is quiet, short & thin, and has been married to Fred for 40 years. Sister is loud, tall & heavyset, and has been widowed 3 times. Sister is also very wealthy and enjoys having fun. They are complete opposites but yet very close.
One day, Sister decides to purchase a country western bar, The Skoot `N' Boot. Barely containing her excitement, she drags Patricia Anne out to see her new enterprise. When they find the murdered body of the previous owner, Patricia Anne begs Sister to sell the bar and get out while she can. But when Patricia Anne discovers that a former prized student works at the Skoot and is the primary suspect in the murder, she starts to investigate to clear his name. Several mishaps occur in the Skoot, and Patricia Anne puts her and Sister's life in jeopardy to solve the crime before this impulse buy sucks the very life from them both.
Anne George is one of my favorite cozy mystery writers, and I was very saddened to learn of her death several years ago. There are many wonderful books in this charming, lovely series so do not let the fact that there will be no new installments prevent you from reading these wonderful books! The main characters, Sister and Mouse, are so vividly written that you feel they could step right off of the page and walk into your living room at any moment! And the storyline that grows with each book drew me back to read this series a second time after a couple of year's absence. Listening to these books on tape is also wonderful, as the narrator brings the characters alive with her wonderful voice! I highly recommend this wonderful series to anyone who enjoys cozy mysteries, or would like a light, fun read.
The next book in the series is called "Murder on a Bad Hair Day". Enjoy!
