Legacy of Fine Reading,

Margaret Truman will be greatly missed. But she left the last of her mystery Murder in the Beltway. The best to ever be written. The plot of the story is the murdered of call girl Rosalie. On the surface her murder seems to an act of enraged client. But knowing Washington it has to be more on the surface. You will have an excellent time finding out. It has everything suspense, murder and intrigue.

Her Last and Perhaps Her Best,
By Jody Lawrence (Los Altos) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Murder Inside the Beltway: A Capital Crimes Novel (Hardcover)
This was an intriguing mystery. The characters were fully delineated, and everything was tied up neatly at the end. For a woman in her 80s, Truman was street-smart and savvy and didn't have to resort to explicit sex and foul language in her mysteries. It's refreshing sometimes to read a book that isn't filled with sex and gore. I'm truly sorry there won't be any more of her books.

Unless her estate uncovers another manuscript, the 24th and last Capital Crimes novel from the late Margaret Truman is titled, Murder Inside the Beltway. The murder in this novel is an escort, Rosalie Curzon. Her legacy was in videotaping her intimate relations with clients. The mystery is engaging, the exploration of power in Washington adds interest, and the characters are fleshed out well enough to make them real and believable.Rating: Three-star (Recommended)

As always Margaret Truman has written a sizzler about life in Wahington DC. And who better to write about the capital and politics. Beginning with the murder of a prostitute who filmed her Johns in action and leading up to a Presidential Election with lots of power brokers, unhappy spouses, seamy side of life and crooks galore, it's a real whizbang of a tale. My only regret is that it will be Truman's last book. I have enjoyed all the Capital Crimes series over the years.

Slow start but worth the perseverance,

Unlike nearly all of Ms. Truman's previous mysteries, this one failed to hold my interest at first. I miss Mac and Annabelle for one thing. However, I set it aside, read several other books and picked this one up again where I left off. The intrigue of D.C. politics carries the story in addition to characters that are human and flawed. I did enjoy the book and am glad I stuck with it. There are some very good twists and turns as the story unfurls.Margaret Truman was an insightful and skillful mystery writer whose work will be sorely missed.

I loved Margaret Truman's mysteries based in Washington, DC. They were always a good read and she had 'insider' knowledge of how things worked in the District. Her final book didn't disappoint. I looked forward to each new publication and hope she (and her family)realized how much her fans appreciated her.
