From Publishers Weekly

California retirement-home residents Angela Benbow and Caledonia Wingate, flush from their sleuthing success in Murder in Gray and White, solve three murders in this enjoyable, meandering tale whose ending is more unlikely than unusual. Tuesday at owl light (dusk) proves to be a lethal time at Camden-sur-Mer. One week after the man who fills the soft-drink machine is found stabbed to death on the grounds, Rollo, the simple-minded gardener, is killed with his own shears. Then Mrs. Lena Gardner is cheeked in by her nephew Robbie. At a welcoming party given in her honor, Mrs. Gardener accuses Angela of stealing her antique broach, but Angela says she bought the pin at a jeweler's. Suave Robbie suggests Aunt Lena is often confused, an accusation that elicits the twosome's sympathy for the new resident. After Lena is found stabbed with her letter opener, Cal and Angela determine to find the murderer, especially since dashing policeman Martinez can use their help. Diverting but improbable.

From the Publisher

A couple of years ago while visiting my in-laws, I spotted a Corinne Holt Sawyer mystery, Murder by Owl Light, sitting on my mother-in-law's night stand. I mentioned to her that Ballantine publishes Ms. Sawyer's paperbacks -- and that I had commissioned the artwork that appears on the covers on these books. She said the cover had caught her eye (maybe she was being nice, but then again the illustration is really charming) and the copy on the back cover sealed the deal. She loves mysteries, and to have the characters in the story close to her age makes it even more enjoyable. After reading the book and totally enjoying it, my mother-in-law sent a letter to the author (a first for her), praising the book and the characters. And she got an appreciative letter back from Ms. Sawyer. Well, she's now read every Camden-sur-Mer book and always looks forward to the next one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Retired, Not Dead!, June 5, 2003
The 3rd book in the series about residents in a California retirement community. For seniors Angela and Caledonia, the murder of the gardener at posh Camden-sur-Mer is a delightful break in their routine!

The residents of a retirement community (not a nursing home!) have a murderer in their midst. Two murders happen quite closely together and no one sees a connection until a third happens. Angela is actually the one that helps the police find the connection and puts herself in danger with the real killer. This book's ending was a bit of a surprise and was genius the way it was put together.

This book shows that retirement does not mean "out to pasture" and shows how valuable the elderly are (to those that, unfortunately, need a reminder!). This was a delightful look at a feisty group of retirement residents that work together to help the police solve a murder. The characters grow with each book in the series and this book was a great addition to the first two. Great for all ages! The first book in this series is "The J Alfred Prufrock Murders". Enjoy!
