I don't usually read "true crime " books, but I would recommend this book to anybody.
Troy
They covered all the actual facts in a succinct manner without making it boring or just seem like fiction.
Lady from the Ozarks
The story flowed well and kept me from "skip reading" like I do with some true crime books.

Incredibly well done! Once started I could not put this book down. The authors did a wonderful job in helping the reader feel like they really know Jackie. I don't usually read "true crime " books, but I would recommend this book to anybody. This is now a tragic story I will follow, I hope that Gerald Carnahan will confess to his other crimes, and hopefully bring some peace to those other families of the other missing, or murdered women.

Jackie Jones, a popular teen beauty queen from rural Missouri, was raped and beaten in the middle of the night. "Everyone" knew that the local rich kid playboy type was guilty--but there was no proof. Murder on a Lonely Road describes the 25 year law enforcement to gather evidence to "prove" what everyone "knew." As the missing young women plié up, the case grows colder. Are the police on the right track, or have they missed the real murderer by focusing all of their attention on the most obvious suspect?

Beth and George are experienced reporters, familiar to people in southern Illinois for their wonderful reporting on criminal justice issues. They have told a fascinating story, in a riveting book. Buy it. Read it. You won't regret it.

Excellent coverage of a 25yr old case, I couldn't put the book down until it was finished. Although I didn't know the victim Jackie Johns, I did know the perpetrator Gerald Carnahan, and another of the murdered girls written about, Debbie Sue Lewis. Debbie and I were best friends that summer and were together the night she disappeared. I always suspected that Gerald had something to do with her murder and am so glad that he was finally found guilty in Jackie's case. Now he is off the streets and where he can't hurt anyone else.

The authors of this book did an excellent job of explaining the circumstances surrounding this case. They covered all the actual facts in a succinct manner without making it boring or just seem like fiction. I loved the additional coverage of the other unsolved cases from around the area at that time, I only wish someone could figure out what happened to them.

I don't usually read books while eating meals but this book went to the table with me until I finished it - I just couldn't put it down. The writer did a great job of telling a story which involved so many players over such a long time span. It was frustrating to hear how this guy kept getting away with his crimes and having his freedom for all the years. But finally he had to face a trial and get his punishment. I will buy another book by this writer. Just the right amount of detail and easy to read style kept me interested throughout. Justice served - better late than never.
