Book Description

Maggie Newberry is sheltered, privileged but also a whip-smart advertising copywriter who’s fast on her feet and a little stunned to realize that she’s 34 years old and still hasn’t found “the one.” When her long-missing sister ends up dead in Maggie’s trendy Atlanta condo, Maggie finds herself flying to the south of France to find the little niece that up until then no one in the family even knew existed. Along the way, she finds handsome Laurent Dernier, a sexy if nefarious Frenchman who it’s not clear is there to help or hinder Maggie’s search for the girl. Meanwhile, her sister’s murderer sets his sights on the little girl—and Maggie. The first book of the Maggie Newberry Mystery Series, Murder on the Côte d’Azure won 3rd prize in the National Writer’s Competition in 2001 in manuscript.

1.0 out of 5 stars Too many errors November 4, 2012

I grew up in Atlanta, Buckhead specifically, and spent many summers in France. I thought this would be a perfect book. However, the huge numbers of errors about Atlanta and France really spoiled it for me. And I wonder if anyone actually read this book before it was published....too many errors in the plot to count. I was very disappointed.

1.0 out of 5 stars Zero stars January 28, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I would give this zero stars if the format allowed it. Absolutely the WORST thing I've read in a long time--I'm sorry I wasted my time finishing it, but I kept thinking it MUST get better. It didn't, and for the following reasons: NO character development except that I'm pretty sure that the lead female character is an absolute idiot, NO insight into relationships, a "plot", such as it was, that made no sense whatsoever. Avoid this book and any further books in this series like the plague. You'll not get your money's worth even if you get if for free.

4.0 out of 5 stars Really Enjoyed This February 13, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I've been following the author's blog (susan kiernan-lewis.wordpress.com) and now checked out the book. Beware, this could be an expensive read...you'll want to go to France based on the beginning. I loved her descriptions. Her style takes a little getting used to as she has sudden chapter changes, and I can say I did not guess the storyline or see the surprises. It was well done. I look forward to the next book. Worth the money and time to read. A trip to France...maybe not.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not my type of story
I only read the first part and quit. I didn't like the bad language or the plot involving drug addicts. I will not be read more by this author.

Easy read but a bit light-weight on the story line. Ten words required not much more to say. Thank you.
