Occassionally I troll for free Kindle books as I miss scouring used book stores for cheap books that catch my eye and found Murder by Magic by Lesley Cookman. I have long been a fan of English murder mysteries so I happilly clicked and received my download. I found her characters tbe likeable and believable, and since I was not able to guess the murderer until the very end, enjoyable. In fact I liked the book so much I went back to Amazon and bought the nine other books in the series. My only gripe is that Murder by Magic was #10 an I had to find out what happened in the previous books.

I love a mystery that keeps me interested all the way through. If a book dips in the middle I am dissapointed. Ms Cookman did not dissapoint me, she entertained me with her community spirited mystery. A main character - Libby Sargeant has a good relationship with the local residents and police. The conversations flow as does the storyline. No dips in the middle with this book. Red-herrings and a truly British flavour make this a good read.Who couldn't love the combination? I am happy to recommend and will be reading more of books written by this author.

Flimsy. The main character and her close friend spend most of their time going to meetings and picking each other up, or calling each other up to make sure they know when they have to pick each other up to go to a meeting! Eeeeekkk! They ask each other questions, they ask themselves questions - please! Take a course of Agatha Christie 101: describe characters, use appropriate language for each character, and stop dragging red herrings across paths just to make the story "mysterious"! It gets boring after a while.

I liked the female protagonists and their significant others including the vicar, Patti. However the plot was not really very good and the perp just kinda was idientikfied at the end for no good reason since he had been excluded early on. The writing style was like watching a soap opera wherein each character has to have a meeting with each of the other characters individually to tell the currebt state of affairs ad infinitem. This was a story that would have been bedtter served as a short story.
I might buy another ibn the series if it was 99 cents, otherwise no.

Simply written and obviously British. I gave up on this. It just didn't keep my interest. Too much dialog between the parties that seemed a little inane to me.

I enjoy British mysteries. This was OK. A little preachy. "I can't have a glass of wine at 4pm. I might have to drive in 4 hours." The characters were interesting.

I love mystery books, and can normally stick with a story, even if its not the best. However, I didn't continue past the fourth page; I wasn't interested at all.

The Libby Sarjeant series has all the criteria for me to purchase a book: 1)good setting even the British coastal villages included; 2)characters I really like and others I can take or leave, but two of the books have been enough for me.
