5.0 out of 5 stars The best Macabre album
I have been a Macabre fan since Gloom/Grim Reality. Macabre gets better with each album. In this one, they really sound like they have learned to play hard and heavy, and they are not just a sinister-speed-metal-hard-core band anymore. "Fritz Haarmann der Metzger" is the best sond yet! For Macabre fans, I recommend these new murders.

versus
3.0 out of 5 stars Definitely not their best.
This Murder Metal is not really bad but not as impressive as Dahmer for example. Therefore I would even say not a very recommendable album.
For starters you got Acid Bath Vampire; bit disappointing and way too long. To cut it short this album just lacks the scent of magic and you'll probably have a lot more fun with early Macabre stuff. Check it out for yourself...

Mainly because of the production. The lyircs are sorta subpar but the energy makes up for it.I like way the guitar on the first track kinda carrys the vibe of the last album (the intro). All in all without this producer (neil kernon) the band would of gone no where.Even though band has come out with pretty amusing stuff without this producer but on this album you can understand everything the guy saying in the past you couldn't really understand anything. The crystal clear sound is what crabs your attention firstand in the past they have had subpar production which wont take bands anywhere(just listen to their 2nd album "GLOOM"and you will understand). In past their their records have had at least thirty songs on them.On the new one it only has thirteen.Which means that that they paid more attention to each song.On the last record (dahmer) it had several different styles from rock to death metal to jazz to willy wonka and the chocolate factory theme song.On the new one its more straight foward grindcore deathmetal with nursery rhymes. On this one I think they really wanted to be taken seriously but still have the humor in it.I could go on forever but I'LL end with this "I really enjoyed this record and I hope you do to".

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, but not there best., January 15, 2004
This review is from: Murder Metal (Audio CD)
Over the past three years I have been waiting for the new album to come out and when it finally did I was happy. But in a way it was kind of disappointing because there were only 13 tracks on the CD. Now if you are a true Macabre fan you should know that's not normal. Sinister Slaughter had 20 songs, Dahmer had 26, Gloom (Re-mastered) had 27, and Sinister Slaughter/Behind the Walls of Sleep CD had 25.
The music is still rockin and they still to this day jam out pretty hard. The drummer is bad *ss! And the lead singer is the craziest guy but very sociable at the same time.
If you want my true opinion the best release they ever had was an EP. The "UNABOMBER" EP that came out in 1998 on Decomposed Records. It only had 7 tracks but those seven songs were worth every penny.

Macabre ~ 8 stars out of 10 stars

Other stuff by Macabre:

Grim Reality
Gloom
Sinister Slaughter
Unabomber
Dahmer
Sinister Slaughter/Behind the Walls of Sleep
Murder Metal
Morbid CampFire Tales

5.0 out of 5 stars Murder Metal!, December 25, 2007
This review is from: Murder Metal (Audio CD)
This album is perfect for first time Macabre listeners... With the best production quality thus far and some of their most catchy songs to date! "Fatal Foot Fetish" stands out as the most energetic track on the album while songs like "Acid Bath Vampire" and "Hillside Stranglers" are reminiscent of classic Macabre from the Grim Reality / Sinister Slaughter days. This album is packed with Macabre's brilliant black humor hearing a song like "Jack The Ripper" sung in a fake british accent will turn off metal fans who take themselves too seriously... But that's what seperates this band from everyone else. Not a bad song on the entire album!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Murder Metal!, August 11, 2005

What a great album this is. 14 songs all about the death, carnage and mayhem from Macabre, which we all love. For those who are not familiar with their brand of Murder Metal, they bare one of the earliest Death metal bands, containing only three members (never loosing one person in their 20 year career, something that is hard to do with any kind of Metal). The only thing new here is that, like Ryan M. Kelly said, there are 13 tracks. Macabre albums like Sinister Slaughter and Dahmer have over twenty songs. But don't worry; the smaller amount of songs doesn't affect it that much. All of the songs are great and at the end you don't feel as though there should be more. And besides, they also had the Behind the Wall of Sleep and Unabomber EPs. Plus their first full length album Grim Reality had ONLY 8 Songs. On an additional note, I was lucky enough to find a rare combo set with their Morbid Campfire Songs EP that was limited to only 1000 copies. (Basically it's the two CDs with a giant cardboard sleeve over them.)

The other difference between this album and their others is that the production on this record is fantastic. While still an Indie/Underground band, they managed to get a producer that's polished their music so all three members shine in every song without polishing it too much. Despite the better production, there are still the trademarks of Indie Records, I.E. inside the CD Sleeve, the song Acid bath Vampire is miss titled as simply Acid Bath.

The reviewer Bud6662 is full of it. Macabre have not sold out. The songs are heavy, gruesome, humorous, and all are about serial killer and murderers. There isn't a change other then the production which makes the songs better. There are no "Cheesy Modern Death Metal Elements"; there are only those of Macabre. Buy this CD, you will not be disappointed.

I love reading about Serial killers, so naturally I fell in love with Macabre (is that the right thing to say?). Knowing whom all the songs are about and reading up on the meanings of the songs really shows how diverse and original these guys really are. No one else writes songs like this. Bands like Gorerotted may try for the Grindgore comedy aspect but these guys take all the gore, humor, murder and talent and mix it into their music so well that it just can not be topped. The songs lyrics may be absolutely disgusting to some, but these were definitely not thought up in 5 minutes like so many sub par Death metal songs. If you have a violent sense of humor then this album (and any Macabre album for that matter) is for you. Now here is a brief overview of the album, whom the songs are about and the thoughts that come to mind.

1. Acid Bath Vampire (John George Haigh) 10/10: This song is hilarious, also very heavy.
2. Your Dying to be With Me (Dennis Nilson) 10/10: Altought the slight singing may be experimental, this song is awesome.
3. Fatal Foot Fetish ( Jerry Brudos) 10/10: one of my favorites, rather funny too.
4. The Hillside Stranglers (Angelo Buono and Kenneth Bianchi) 10/10: Short but oh so sweet.
5. Dorthea's Deadfolk's Home (Dorthea Puente) 7/10: Funny and entertaining.
6. The Iceman (Richard Kuklinski) 10/10: Love the guitar solo.
7. Poison (Graham Fredrick Young) 10/10: see Track 4
8. Werewulf of Bedburg (Peter Stumpp) 9/10: one of Macabre's most creative songs, it's really slow but tells a captivating story.
9. Morbid Minister (Gary Heidnick) 9/10: See Track 4
10. The Wustenfeld Man Eater (Armin Meiwes) 8/10: Mainly an Instrumental, this one kicks.
11. Diary of Torture (Robert Berdella) 10/10: See track 4 yet again.
12. Jack the Ripper (Identity Unknown) 8/10: "Good Luck, Yours truly Jack the Ripper. P.S. Don't mind me given the Trade Name."
13. Fritz Haarman Der Metzger (Fritz Haarman) 9/10: Sung in German! Great song.
14. Untitled Hidden track 5/10: I'm not sure who this is about , it's an ok song, but nothing special.

2.0 out of 5 stars sellout., December 9, 2003
This review is from: Murder Metal (Audio CD)
Sounds to me like their audience was waning so they added some cheesy modern death metal elements which is really sad. Combining this generic death metal garbage with the classic macabre sound just does not work. Very disappointing.

Check out their 93 cd Sinister Slaughter. That's a masterpiece.
