A Murder Party for Adults,

The box says this is for "Adults", especially since the game contains some flirty statements and descriptive accusations in the script. At the end of each script or dialogue each person had to accuse others of being the murderer, based on facts in their script booklet. The party planner's book gives great suggestions for props, music and food. We checked out a 50's CD from the library and played it all night long. We also had a hula hoop, 50's book and a 57 Chevy prop to go with the theme. The end had quite a twist, which made it fun and interesting. Overall, a fun game! Requires about three hours to play game. Note to Party Planner: Read through the first dialogue of the part you play to better understand how the dialogue should go. This will help you better explain to others. Have fun!

I saw one of these Murder Mystery games at a bookstore, and thought they looked interesting. This was my first Murder Mystery game I have ever hosted, and it was a blast!!!! Everyone come over dressed up in character, we had 50's music playing, and barbecue food. All of the guests got into the parts more than I thought they would!!! This was an extremely fun game, although I don't have any other mysteries to compare it to. Now we are planning to get together once a month for a Murder Mystery night! This game was just a blast!
IMPORTANT: Even though this game says 6-8 players (there are 2 non-suspect parts), I would highly reccomend there only being 6 players. The other two guests really had no part in any of the action. They just sort of sat there and watched. They aren't in any of the scripted parts, and people don't have replies to their questions. It should only be for 6 players!!!

Murder on the Grill - A Killer of a Fun Time,

This was our first murder mystery party and it was a good one for novices. It was 100% scripted and included six guests. There can be up to 8 characters, but the two extra guests have no lines so we just had six. All the guests were into their character so this made it fun. Do not invite someone who is not really interested in taking on their role. After getting drinks and snacks, we began and decided to play through before eating dinner so it took us about an 1-1.5 hours and the murderer was a complete surprise. We did enjoy dressing up in the 50's theme and played 50's music, but the story is not so era sensitive that you could not change the theme/era. There are equal male/female roles and we had five females and one male, so we switched the parts around and our lonely boy had a girl's role while all three male parts were played by girls. The necessity of drag added another layer of fun. We enjoyed it throughly!

We've already enjoyed this with 2 different groups. It's an easy way to teach newbies what a murder mystery dinner is all about. This one is not as risque as most, which was nice.

My husband and I hosted 3 couples and had so much fun playing this game! We all made an effort at dressing the part, although no one followed the costume suggestions to the tee - but the effort really paid off. It took us just under 3 hours to complete it, with breaks for checking/serving/cleaning up the food. It was easy to play, easy to follow, and was about as much fun as you made it. Everyone really tried to have fun and play up the characters and everyone laughed and had a great time. We would highly recommend it to anyone interested in a murder mystery game!

I purchased this item as a gift, having participated in a different murder mystery earlier. I especially appreciated the reviews of others, and the suggestion that it is really designed for six players, rather than the 8 mentioned. The two extra persons don't really have anything to do. So, enjoy!! Having decorations, attire, and food in keeping with the theme will add a lot to the fun of the evening!!

We ordered this party game for our daughter's 16th birthday. The planning and decorating was fun with great ideas from the game. The teens had a great time figuring out "who dunnit." We threw in some prizes for the kids as well. Bigger prizes went for the best costume and solver of the mystery. But we also handed out coffee stand bucks for who could hula hoop the longest, trivia, and if ANY one could yo-yo at all. Fun night for every one.

This was our first mystery and since I didn't want to wait until Summer to host one we had it a few weeks before Christmas. I just changed a few of the dinner suggestions and decorated the Kitchen 50's style. It has been mentioned before, but the non-suspect parts are not fun to play. Perhaps if you know someone who likes to watch more than participate, it would be a perfect role for them. Otherwise, stick to the suspects. We have done 5 other mysteries, 2 with non-suspect parts, and it is always the same. The non-suspects do not have fun.
I loved the twist. Someone else mentioned they did not like the end result. I thought it was creative. Four of the eight of us guessed the murderer. Since this was our first mystery, it will always hold a special place.

This murder mystery in a box package is the real deal.It comes with, literally, everything you need to plan a party set in the 50s and put on a fun little murder mystery. Invitations, music suggestions, prop suggestions, a menu, and even costume suggestions are all included with the package. The only even close to negative thing about it would be it's limited to only six real players. There are two "extra" characters, but neither of them have much to do with the overall mystery. But I'm not going to let that detract from the game, because you have to draw the line at participants somewhere. Overall, it's a great product.

This was the first murder mystery party I have hosted (or attended). The party was a hit, everyone liked dressing up, the decor, the themed food, and dancing to the music. My guests of honor had wanted a murder mystery party and after researching various reviews, this collection was the best ranked and I liked the 50's theme. When the kit arrived I was disappointed. There is far too much packaging. The materials in the kit could easily fit in a slimmer package to save resources and postage. I was disappointed in the styling of the invitations and name cards. I did appreciate the party planning directions and menu ideas. I ended up crafting my own invitations for more pop and wow. The CD was corny but fun, we loved the pop culture references. The story itself was fun and the guest really got into the scripts. I think I had already read on here that there are only 6 speaking parts and if you are not one of those 6 then it is not very engaging. I second that. I was the 7th and it worked well for me because I played waitress while the game went on. Even so, with our group, I found it hard to interject much because the scripted players embellished off their cues. I am an outgoing person and some guests were concerned about me and did not understand why I was not going head to head ("Are you ok? Why so quiet?"). I think if I did it again I would try to write my own script ahead of time or a little script for any guests beyound the 6 parts. If you have guests who are shy or just enjoy taking in the drama, then they would be ok with no part. My husband felt the game was too scripted, "on rails", he thinks it would be nice if there were alternate twists to allow for multiple uses or to let the guests take the wheel more. We will probably gift, donate or resell this set because we would not use it again now knowing the outcome.
