Book Description

A Kate Delafield Mystery August 1, 2003

When Katherine V. Forrest’s Amateur City was published in 1984, introducing LAPD detective Kate Delafield, it not only marked the beginning of one of mystery fiction’s most successful series, it also created one of the most lucrative genres in gay publishing: the lesbian mystery. With her next six Kate Delafield novels, Forrest’s complex and determined lesbian detective became the most celebrated figure in lesbian fiction. Alyson is proud to present the first and second Kate Delafield mysteries, back in print and ready to captivate a new generation of fans!

In Murder at the Nightwood Bar, Kate investigates the murder of a homeless 19-year-old addict-prostitute, whose battered body is found outside a popular lesbian bar.

In addition to penning the legendary Kate Delafield mystery series, -Katherine V. Forrest has written the lesbian romantic classic Curious Wine and the science fiction novels Daughters of a Coral Dawn and Daughters of an Amber Noon. She lives in San Francisco.

This review is from: Murder at the Nightwood Bar: A Kate Delafield Mystery (Paperback)
This was a very well written crime novel. It has the interesting detective and a murder with a great many questions. The personal details of our lead character, are kept to a good minimum, allowing us to pursue the killer and not become entangled in the Dr. Phil problems of the lead characters (which is often the price we pay when indulging in the lesbian detective novel, or any female detective novel for that matter). This quality of crime novel is not easy to find among the Dectives of this genre. There are those of us who crave good crime novels and it would seem that many authors labor under the delusion that we are also looking to indulge in the psychological angst and the romantic prowess of the characters. I personally outgrew romance novels when I got my driver's license. Thanks to this author for a very well orchestrated mystery.

5.0 out of 5 stars great detective novel, December 4, 2011
This review is from: Murder at the Nightwood Bar: A Kate Delafield Mystery (Paperback)
This is like time travel back into the times when homosexuality was still a major crime in itself. Katherine Forrest has created a wonderful, human & imperfect character with Kate Dellafield and the crime she has to solve is as old as time, i.e. despite the lack of mobile phones human nature has not changed since the 1980s when the book orginally came out. Forrest is a great writer and it shows in every sentence.
