5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, July 17, 2006
This review is from: Murder at the Palace/an Eleanor Roosevelt Mystery (Hardcover)
I discovered this series while browsing in my local used bookstore. What a pleasant surprise this book was!

Eleanor Roosevelt travels to England during World War II to meet the Kind and Queen, and to visit U.S. servicemen (including her son). This trip is actually historical fact; Mrs. Roosevelt did in fact visit Britain during this time.

Here's the fiction part: there is a murder in Buckingham Palace. Since this is the fifth book in the series, it's already established the Mrs. Roosevelt is adept at solving mysteries, so when she expresses interest in helping solve the murder, the officials are happy to let her.

The murder victim was an odious, cruel, and rather depraved man who was murdered during a dinner party he was hosting. The guests, oddly enough, were all enemies of his and they all had their reasons for wanting him dead. The officials are baffled as to how he was murdered in his room while his guests in the next room claimed to hear and see nothing.

Without giving the actual plot away, suffice to say that Mrs. Roosevelt helps figure out the culprit and the motive.

This book is fun, intriguing, and easy to read. Highly recommended! I can't wait to read the others in the series.
