Simply Delightful, August 20, 2009
This review is from: Murder In The Rose Garden - An Eleanor Roosevelt Mystery (Hardcover)
This book is part of a series of books that portrays First Lady, Eleanor Roosevelt, as a sleuth. It is well written by her son Elliott.
Vivian Taliafero is found strangled to death in the White House gardens. Investigating her death sheds light into her "shocking" lifestyle. Miss Taliafero was having sex with many powerful D.C. political figures in her home, and filming their "sessions" covertly, and of course, blackmailing them. The hunt is on to find her killer and Eleanor Roosevelt is determined to do just that; with the help of Secret Service. This is a delightful book. Elliott Roosevelt captures the era of the 1930's political scene very well. Readers get to "live" inside the 1930's White House through Elliot's eyes. While it is a mystery, there is nothing heavy and sinster about this book. It is flows nicely, captures your interest from page one, and is just plain engaging. I didn't want to put it down. I found myself really liking this smart savvy woman. It is a page turner. I was caught up in trying to figure out "whodunit". While this is obviously a tribute to his well loved Mother, Elliott Roosevelt is a very good writer...lively and interesting.
I going to have to order the Series...can't wait to see what Eleanor is up to next. It appears Amazon has the entire series in some form..Kindle, used and new.
