Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

The Adams Round Table is a group of noted mystery writers who get together monthly to hone their craft. This collection of short stories includes works by Lawrence Block, Mary Higgins Clark, Warren Murphy, Whitley Strieber, and Peter Straub. Many of these stories allow readers to see their favorite authors in a different light or writing a different kind of tale than what they are used to reading. Some of the works are humorous, some poignant or sad, and some so scary that they may keep you up at night. Mystery fans will enjoy hearing these pieces, and those interested in writing will have a wonderful time studying these authors. Recommended.ADanna Bell-Russel, Lib. of Congress, Washington, DC

From AudioFile

Each member of the Adams Round Table, a kind of Algonquin Round Table of mystery writers, contributed a story about murder and its aftermath to this new anthology. With the exception of Peter Straub's overly long entry, "Isn't It Romantic?", all of the 11 stories are agreeable time-passers, and a few are engrossing. Happily, the best stories have been matched with the best readers, resulting in some memorable listening experiences. Karen Murray's tough, heartfelt reading of Joyce Harrington's prison story, "Eunice and Wally," is a particular standout. The interesting mix of story types and reading styles makes this a good gift for someone who hasn't yet tried audiobooks. J.P.M. (c) AudioFile, Portland, Maine
